What I collect: Worldwide - Stamps and Postmarks - not enough time...

The stamp-entities of Aunus, North Ingermanland (North Ingria) and Karelia all lie within borders of present day Russia. However, they are mostly collected along with Finland collections, and are considered 'Finnish areas' - and for good reasons. I've been making pages for these areas, incooperated in my Finland pages, and made a little write-up for each area. Quite fascinating history, at that time with majority of Finnish speaking inhabitants, wanted to get away from Moscow and unite with Finland. The Red Army crushed their hopes, but their ambitions for a different future was manifested with their stamps. Here's the pages with some more details for each area, hope the jpg's are possible to read. Starting with the Finland album frontage, to indicate how these areas are inccoperated in the album, following a timeline

Fantastic pages Jon. I bow in the dust for your insight and knowledge and your artistic skills. My pages look like kindergarten drawings compared to this ........

THANK YOU, blaamand for sharing more of your excellent designs! I collect these areas, too, and these are the nicest pages I've ever seen for them. If I ever decide to actually MOUNT a collection I'm going to buy a set from you! And classicalstamps - I've never known that there were overprint varieties for these. Good work on finding them! Are the varities consistent across all the denominations in the set? Time to get out the stockbooks are see what I have.

I have never seen any references to these, except an auction listing where I grabbed this image from. I was too slow to react, so I didn't get the lot If anyone has more information, please share

Not sure if this is helpful, but there is a note in my 2002 Facit for East Karelia that states "Specialised cataloging of shades and varieties. Please see FACIT 1976-1977."

They didn't have a picture of a 9 year old elementary school student!
Actually, except for the hair color and missing glasses, the avatar is not too far off the mark!

I just wish that you put a nice Avatar instead of this 13 year old teenager Back in 2009 my then girlfriend / now wife convinced me that I needed to be on Facebook. But I didn't include an avatar / profile picture. She complained and said it's FACEbook, I need to show my face. So I put up a picture of a frying pan with a fried egg in it (I'm fond of fried eggs). She complained some more so I used an app to add Crasher Squirrel in front of my fried egg and made that my profile pic. And then I added Crasher Squirrel to her profile pic and put that on her page. ha ha So Kim, just add Crasher Squirrel to your avatar and you should be good to go! Ryan

Thanks to all for the kudos, appreciated. tobben63 - Your pages are artistic and just as fine for sure! philatelia - I love your enthusiasm. If you ever want to swop from Vario to album pages, you can have these for free, I won't allow any pay 😊 vikingeck - Absolutely brilliant with those pages, I actually searched Google to try to find them, due to that reference in Facit, but without success. I would love to have a copy. And I will update my pages immediately with the more specialised info. I was also trying to find any reference to different watermark positions for the 1942 Mannerheim and president Ryti issues for East Karelia, but didn't find any. I am expecting those can be found with 4 different watermarks, similar as is the case for the regular Finland issues. Does anybody know??

classicalstamps - Brilliant input on the varieties on the overprints, that's new to me. Impressive amount of knowledge on this forum! khj - thanks for your input. I saw the note in Facit on more details in the 76-77 catalog, but I never imagined anyone did actually have it, and Google couldn't help. However your note sent vikingeck to the rescue!! Hurray. This just show what an extraordinary helpful bunch of guys you all are. Thanks to all yet again!!

We have "brilliant" stamp and cinderella collectors on this Forum. I have noticed a few new members who contribute lots of knowledge in the past 6 months and I am not bashing our older "brilliant" members like blaamand and Beryllium Guy and jimjung ..and nbstamper....to name a few (morning memory !)....sorry ! I cannot name the whole list René

khj .... Stay "young" !!.....and do not mind me commenting on your Avatar as I should not........My Avatar on Facebook is a Porsche 911 1981 (one of my ancient sportscar) I will never put my face on Facebook Cheers René No problem, I know it was tongue-in-cheek, as was my reply (well, at least the first half of my reply; the avatar really does surprisingly look a little like me! -- when I was in middle school!) I don't put my picture along with my full name on any social networking platforms. Not just because it's too ugly, but I have to keep a low profile because of certain work obligations. So, I'm actually not on Facebook, Twitter... Since there are so few stamp collectors in this world, I figure I'd be OK at stamp forums.

Keijo specifically mentioned watermark types for this issue about 9 years ago elsewhere. He briefly talked about a total of 4 different types/orientations. Not sure if that is what you were asking about. scb hasn't visited this forum in nearly a year, so he may not see the tag. Maybe you can contact him directly and ask? If he is willing, please share his reply as well if he gives you a source.

Just to avoid confusion, I am familiar with the different watermarks and positions used on this series, basically there are 2 different watermarks, and both are upright or inverted. These are listed in Facit for Finland. What I am curious about is if the same 4 different watermarks can be found also on these stamps overprinted for East Karelia. Facit doesn't say anything about if for East Karelia at all.... For anyone not familiar with these wmk varieties, refer to my Finland page for Mannerheim series, with illustration of the watermarks:

Thanks philatelia, the answer was just that easy! I arrived home with my stamps yesterday, and checked out my Mannerheim and Ryti of East Karelia this morning. And it appears they just don't have watermarks at all. What a surprise when they are said to be overprints on the regular Finland versions. Anyway, puzzle solved 😊

This area is known for the fact that there were shooting of the Russian film "Flint"-it is very similar to the film Rambo-First blood.
