Although I have seen reference to this in auction catalogues, I could not find any posts related to re-joining or re-enforcing perforations and a recent acquisition of a large block of the Portuguese Ceres issue could benefit from this as some of the perforations have started to separate. The Philatelic Foundation lists rejoined perforations on their website under " Expertizing Terms and Condition Standards for Stamps" but only in terms of a definition, "Where separated perforations have been reattached by means of a hinge, gum or other chemical substances."
And now for the questions:
When does one need to do this, i.e. re-enforce separating perforations? How does one do it? Is it simply a matter of adding hinges to the affected area? We spend so much time discussing the removal of hinges, it would seem ironic to be adding them. Good restoration is something that can be undone, is this possible with some method of re-joining or re-enforcing perforations and is there one better than the other? Is it even necessary? After all, once in a mount and on a page it should not matter.
Any pointers, suggestions or advice for proceeding would be appreciated...
Thanks and happy collecting!
P.S. Welcome back to the Forum vikingeck ! I found his posting when searching with the term - "rejoined" ;-)

Thanks stanley64 . There is no satisfactory way to rejoin splitting perforations . It is of course possible to reinforce the join with a stamp hinge over the join, Nothing else will do, sellotape Scotch tape brown paper and glue must be avoided at all costs. The only answer is conservation rather than repair. Enclose the entire block carefully in a transparent Hawid or Safegard mount of the correct dimensions. Such large mounts are available. if it ever comes to trading the block an honest description “ some slight perf splitting” gets more marks than a clumsy repair “hinge repaired on the back”
