Interesting stamp below. I believe this was probably rouletted/perforated in Avalon, bearing an Avalon diamond cancel. Anyone have any other ideas? I cant find it in any catalogue, but then my French is terrible! Thanks Steve

Nice vertical pair @steve 752 3420 is listed as Soissons (Bureau /office) and Aisne (Department the office was assigned to ) here
The roulette perforation is interesting- I'm not finding much about that as far as France goes, though I do have a few fiscals with that type of perforation All of my Ceres are either inperf or "hole" perforations

Well, these stamps are not rouletted, but they do have rather rough perforations. The paper looks to be of a rather poor quality as well perhaps?

Thanks for that, there was a pencil note on the back that says 'Ceres Ma43', no idea what that means.
So its a Soissons cancel?

upon closer inspection, I wonder if the stamps are slightly overlapping, added to the appearance. The upper stamp/top does look to be more of a rough perforation
I definitely have some with short perfs

The design is the head of Ceres goddess of harvest , crops and plenty. I suspect that the Ma 43 is the number of the stamp in the Maury catalogue.
may I ask what led you to think it was Avalon ( French town is Avallon south of Paris)?
