Hi there, I'm Jim from Wellington NZ. I started collecting as a teenager some 40 years ago, and used to love visiting the stamp fairs with my Dad and delving through the bargain boxes. I well remember scoring some classic early french imperf material for 1c each... Some time around my late teens, I found music, beer and other diversions so my stamp collecting took a hiatus of 20 years or so. In about 2001 I discovered eBay and started selling about 1000 CDs I'd bought at a police auction just for fun... it was a few years later that I started buying stamps again, and I've been buying and selling on eBay ever since (my handle is great_sounds_great and maybe I've been fortunate to trade with some of you over time). I spent a long time in Australia but a couple of years moved back home to Wellington and feel so lucky to be home again, especially in these times of the virus. My initial collecting interest was all of NZ, but after I got pretty much all of the simplified collection sorted (and bought a few too many mint collections) I started specialising in Chalon heads. I'm now struggling to fill the last few SG numbers (way too expensive) so have been dabbling in other things like cancellations, manuscripts, overlaps, preprint creases, re-entries on chalons and QV long type fiscals - particularly the postal usage thereof. Plus general cinderellas, revenues and special post stamps. One day I may have to start building on the various country collections I have which are in a far less advanced state. But full time work and young children make that something of a longer term project. Look forward to spending time on here. Cheers, Jim PS here is an example of a horizontal overlap on a Richardson 6d - you can just make out a bit of the frame line at the top of the stamp where it wasn't covered by the top sheet of paper... (the sheets of paper weren't big enough to cover the entire plate so two sheets were used and overlapped, trying to align the paper join between the rows of the design)

Greetings Jim, from the sunny Bay of Plenty. Great to see you on these boards. I am sure that we will have plenty to discuss and share. Love those Chalons - and the specialties within them. Speak to you soon. Dave PS Nice find there. Quite clearly an overlap from the Richardson period. Well done

Jim,
Welcome to our forum!
You are now able to post in most other areas so I look forward to seeing significant growth of our New Zealand board.
The FAQ board provides a lot of "how to" information but if you have questions not answered there or encounter problems, just send me a message and I"ll try to help.

Hi, Jim ( jimbabwe), and welcome to TSF! I am a US-expatriate currently living in the UK. As I told DK in my response to his intro, I am very interested in the NZ Chalon Heads, so I am looking forward to learning more of the details. In case you have not yet found it, you may also be interested in this thread: thestampforum.boards.net/thread/6316/happy-200th-birthday-victoria-queenAnyway, welcome again, and I look forward to seeing more images of your material! Cheers, Chris ( Beryllium Guy)

Hello jimbabwe from eastern Canada and welcome
New Zealand has always been my prime collecting interest, so I welcome the opportunity to see parts of your collection. Sounds like you are more advanced in the Country than me and have the advantage of actually living there, so you may be a big help as I try to expand.

Big welcome to yet another from NZ - delighted to have you with us jimbabwe. I like your introduction - your stamping 'carieer' reminds me very much about myself, I also picked up the hobby again in 2001. And also still have young children (x4) living at home, making it challenging to progress as rapidly as I would like. Absolutely brilliant to have both you and DK weighing in on the Chalons, I hope the two of you will race to learn us everything there is to know about these most gorgeous - but also challenging - classics. And I hope you will learn a little from the opposite side of the globe as well Jon
