I just received a trade with stamps that had remnants of a sticky tape on the back. The heat the stamps endured in the mail truck caused the adhesive to soften and many of the stamps were stuck together. They were a MESS. I mentioned the problem to the sender and he told me the tape was recommended by the ASDA and to just peel it off. Well, sorry buddy, but I’m not interested in spending hours trying to scrape goo off of cheap stamps so I returned them. UGH!
So, WARNING! Those supposedly “safe” adhesive tapes can become a mess when warm! I highly recommend avoiding using them.

I have this old H.E. Harris Statesman album full of stamps that I bought at a bourse here in Grand Rapids, now almost a year ago, that has a number of stamps attached to pages with what looks like a type of white tape or hinge that peels off from the stamp and the page only if done very carefully and leaves behind a substantial amount of sticky residue on both. I don't know if it is the same thing you had to deal with.
Fortunately it is nowhere near all of the stamps and I sprayed Pure Citrus on the stamps affected as I remove them from the album and it dissolves and comes off readily. Nonetheless, it is a lot of extra work and you can't just place these stamps on a stockpage without removing the sticky residue because you would have to peel them off again at a later time.

The breakdown of these sticky adhesives is one of the main reasons that I don’t collect modern mint self adhesives. They are like ticking time bombs - who knows when that gunk will start dissolving? Remember the USA Christmas issue that is now a mass of splotchy brown stains? Does anyone else remember a few early self adhesive booklets from Norway that melted into a slimy mess? I’ll save used singles that soak, and I do save a few used copies here and there left on paper, but I rarely invest in mint booklets or panes of full gum self adhesives.
I’m actually leaning more and more towards using a cutoff date for countries that issue unsoakable SAG stamps, even including my beloved Irish. It’s so hard to keep up with the glut of new issues anyways. I’ve become much more enamored of Classical material and I’d rather spend my stamp budget on the fascinating oldies.

The only SA's I have are Canadian Christmas. Although why I bought them, I'll never know.
I'm of the same opinion towards those nasty things - better left to others!

I am highly suspect of these "hinges" being ASDA-approved. Sheesh - the liability problems are overwhelming, at least to my thinking. I recall decades ago a product which was supposed to be an easily-to-remove substance for mounting stamps, but that memory is nearly gone.

I commented about this earlier as you can see and I have finally gotten around to taking some photos of this adhesive. It is much like a hinge but white and the adhesive "hinge" will peel off if done slowly and carefully. It has an adhesive quality a bit like melted cheese stretching between two halves of a grilled cheese sandwich (except that I don't hinge my stamps on pages with cheese). Has anyone seen anything like this before? It is my first time seeing this particular way of attaching a stamp to a page. Here are some examples on the back of some Germania stamps I recently bathed to take of remnant paper and other hinge remnants.
