Hello my friend's, I'm back!
On May 19th I posted that I needed a break. At the time I felt that stamps was something I had to do, not something I wanted to do. So I decided I needed a break.
During the last week's of summer holly-day I felt more and more that I wanted to work with stamps again.
The time “off-stamping” I have used to do photo (bought a new camera gear) and I have done some cycling. I have also been looking a lot on youtube, more on that subject later!
When I started photographing again I soon realized that my computer was not up to the challenge of handling and editing big video files. So I bought myself a new laptop (€2000) witch I use as a main PC. I connected it to the 30” monitor I had but then I realized the the monitor was not up to it compared with the screen on the laptop witch has a 4k resolution. So I bought myself a 32” 4k screen! O my g... what a difference. I now can see the images crystal clear.
So what has this to do with stamps? A lot. First of all I can see the stamps I scan much better, and the colors are more accurate. The screen is so big that I can work with several programs at the same time. (I always use several different applications/programs when working with stamps) Having them side by side ease my workflow.
So what stampy things have I ongoing now then? I have started cleaning out what I dont need to have. Making small and bigger box lots selling on a Norwegian facebook stamp site. Doing that I pick only the stamps I need or “want” to have a closer look at. These stamps go to a small washing tray to be soaked later. I think I will have stuff enough to 4 – 5 big boxes (6-10kg) and will try to sell one each week. The firs one (7,5kg) have already been sold. Start bid €1, sold for €50 included freight. (and I guess that I will spend the double of what I sell for on the next local auction in December)
Youtube.
There are thins going on in the stampy world that might will recruit new younger collectors and get back former collectors. The youtube channel “Exploring Stamps” by Graham Beck is a great example of that. He takes on simple topics and explain them in a good way. At first I thought that this was to simple, but it is not. He has a great “voice” and a engagement that is unik in the philatelistic world. And he is young, not an +50 old man (like me) who try to be cool and young.
Then there is “Ted Talk Stamps”, also known as “youpiao” (Ted Tyszka
) at the Stamp Bears forum (some of you have been there to). He is more the old school, but he keep it simple. Not as professional as Exploring Stamps. And there are more, but I will post those in a dedicated youtube tread.
I have been “lurking” here the past two weeks and I have felt there are treads I wanted to comment, but I wanted to do this post first. I feel that I have refreshed my stampy mind a bit, had some new inspiration from other sources and I have some plans that might come alive and some that just will fade away.
So there you have it, I'm back but I don't know on what level. I look forward to participate again with you all.
