I just went to the USPS website, and was about to order some new stamps, as I fallen behind a little bit. I ended up scrapping my order for now, because I was, again, having to order all these full sheets of stamps that I didn't not want a full sheet of (hip-hop stamps, for one, I'm looking at you). Why did they take away the ability to only purchase a block of 4, if that's what you wanted? It's so irritating. I think I have a post office near my office that obliges me and breaks up sheets, if they are allowed, so I think I need to make a trip there. I have to deal with this before I get too far behind.
Please tell me I'm not the only one who's annoyed by this practice? Funny story: I recall one time when I first started collecting, back when I was 12, and I went to the post office on my bicycle. They had one new issue that I didn't have yet. "How many would you like", the clerk asked me. "Oh, just one!". She looked at me like I'd grown a second head. But I gave her my 10 cents, I got my stamp, pedaled home, and added it to my Ambassador album. Since I didn't know what a mount was yet at the time, I'm sure I used a hinge on the mint stamp and ruined it. What the heck did I know? I was 12! I also recall another trip, bringing home a se-tenent block of 4 stamps, on my bike, carrying it in my fingers. I still have it, with the gum smeared and smudged with my fingerprints. lol Of course, I've since replaced it in my album with something in a little better shape.

Wow. And I just tried to order from Royal Mail's website, too. It doesn't seem to like USA addresses very much. Frustrating.

Same in Canada. I wanted plate blocks of the low value definitives and a single of each. Nope, buy a sheet! So I have 45 spares of each, including 3 plates blocks of 4 or 12 or whatever and a bunch of extras!
This isn't a hobby for kids anymore when you have to buy so many to just get one!
At least they were LOW value (1¢ to 25¢) in sheets of 50.

The practice surely does not encourage collecting and ended my interest in US since if you want singles you end up with a lot of scrap you cannot use up quickly.

You used to be able to buy just enough of a coil stamp to get the plate number, now you have to buy the entire roll. Who wants 3,000 of the 1 cent apple?

Who wants 3,000 of the 1 cent apple? That's almost 10 years of an Apple a Day. Dole 'em out to the kids to give to their teachers?

I will add I do have some modern US spares (most in 2013 to 2018) that were left overs. For example, I do have some of the fruit coils and the pre-sort coils (these cannot be used on mail unless you have the permit).
If you have some specific needs let me know to see what I have left since I use them for postage.
