Having fun going through some old albums. Still learning that these old albums have a mix of real and fake but they do fun to go through. Here’s a pic of some random looking stuff I’ve come across today 😊

What I collect: Worldwide Stamps 1840-1930

What an interesting old bunch of stamps, ladydoe .... I congratulate you! 1st row: The first two on the left are from Argentina (they are actually inscribed REPUBLICA ARGENTINA, if you look closely). I can't tell what the red-looking stamp is; there isn't enough detail. The larger piece of paper at the end of the row does not look like a stamp to me. It looks like a piece of paper with the Campbell - Duke of Argyll coat of arms printed on it, with a Marquis title printed below it. I am not sure what it is. 2nd row: The first one is a stamp from Belgian Congo overprinted for Belgian Occupation of German East Africa. The second stamp is an issue from Buenos Aires (also part of Argentina). 3rd row: The 3 imperforate rectangular stamps: greenish blue, off-white, and magenta are Roman States. Someone else will need to help with what looks to be a circular cut-out. 4th row: First stamp is something very faded from Portugal, followed by another circular cut-out similar to the one in the 3rd row. The third stamp is an early Samoa, for which we should ask Alex ( vikingeck ) for an opinion on its status. Fourth stamp is a GB Queen Victoria issue that has been overprinted for use by the bank named in the overprint. 5th row: First a stamp of Portugal overprinted for use in the colony of Madeira, followed by perhaps a revenue stamp from Spain (?), and another GB QV issue with a bank overprint. I should just add that, to my knowledge, which is somewhat limited, there are lots of reprints and forgeries of many of the items that you show here, and that may be what they are, but I cannot tell you for sure one way or the other.

The 2 cut-to-shape (circular) stamps are Afghanistan.

The very damaged brown Afghan stamp is meant to be that way. They had no postmark to cancel the stamp so they tore part of it off! That way you collect them used . The Samoa is a reprint like 90% of those you find. I would be doubtful of the two Argentines, as they are most likely to be forgeries.and the Buenos Aires ship stamp ,like the Suez earlier is certainly a forgery . The Spanish stamp with the punch hole has been used as receipt for payment on a telegram rather than postage use. The three Roman, Papal States need closer examination as they are notoriously reprinted, though there is a possibility they could be o.k. The coat of arms of the Scottish Marquis of Lorne , eldest son of the Duke of Argyll would have been printed on the personal stationery , notepaper and envelopes was the fashion in Victorian times. On the whole an intriguing if not very genuine collection of items. The catalogue value of the genuine items in good condition would be enormous .................. but .........! the red stamp on the top row looks like it might by early Turkey Ottoman Empire period but as Beryllium Guy says not clear enough to be sure .
