I hope my item below qualifies, but if not I will post another more suitable to the occasion... Thank you London Bus for being the first to post a stamp up and I have put you in the draw. Loving the stamp and the back story. Goes to show it is not always the most expensive stamps that are the most interesting. Also love the way you acquired it and the meaning it has to you. Wish all stamps cost this lol x

I can't remember where exactly I acquired these photographs, maybe from an Arnold Machin exhibition... Daniel these are incredible photographs. Do they have anything written on the back of the photographs? . I have the 4th photograph (undressed head) which is marked from the post office on the back. Thank you so much for sharing and for kindly rejecting being in the draw because you already own the cover. This site is really full of kind and considerate people and i am so glad to be a part of. that.

Great stuff sarah and I am enjoying the thread along with all the posts; even the long ones ;-)
My own collection of HM Queen Elizabeth II Stamps is limited to Canada's Cameo issues shown early, but here is one more and just a bit of fun ;-)
Here is a variety of a Tristan da Cunha issue featuring her Majesty in profile along with a Northern Rockhopper (Eudyptes moseleyi) penguin and is affectionately known as "The Kiss"
Tristan da Cunha 1954 (SG n.º 16)
Happy collecting!

I thought I had more info on them but having hunted high and low I can't find anything, at least for now. Possibly, I purchased them from the old National Postal Museum on King Edward Street or maybe online. Daniel

Not sure if any of Arnold Machin stamp collectors also collect Arnold Machin coins. Arnold Machin also designed a number of coins for the Royal Mint including this 1977 Jubilee coin. He also made a copy in Wedgwood.

I make it 5pm and the end of the giveaway.
Thank you for at the entries. My favourite post was Daniel's photographs of the Machin but he already has the first day cover that I was offering so declined to enter. I will try and find Daniel something that he hasn't got already which might prove difficult!
My second favourite was Londonbus1. I liked his post for a number of reasons; he showed a stamp that I hadn't seen before but he also had a personal story about the stamp and why it means so much. So much of my collection is built on a personal level and that is so important when collecting as it makes each collection so individual. My collection is very varied but to me that is what makes it interesting where one thing then leads to another find .It can be frustrating for others as well when I go off on a tangent!
Londonbus 1 I will pm you for an address to send the cover. Congratulations x

Great stuff and congratulations to Michael ( Londonbus1 ) for showing the winning entry. Thanks for the chance sarah ; an opportunity to return to one's collection and look through it, is an opportunity not to be missed ;-) For now though and album pages aside, I still think it would be neat to give HM a quick peck on the cheek... Happy collecting!

I haven't given up on this thread. I will keep posting. Easter holidays with the children and work has been exceptionally busy. I have been researching Dorothy Wilding again in detail. I would love to see pictures of any stamps signed by her. I have one stamp signed by her which I will show later but I would love to see other people's stamps. I would love to know how many are around. I am suspecting that there are not a great deal of stamps signed by her.

This is one of my favourite signed stamps. This stamp came from the Andrew Swanston collection who I will talk about in another post. He was an incredible stamp collector and collected some amazing stamps and covers. I was fortunate enough to buy several of his signed Queen stamps. This was the 1954 Royal visit stamp to Australia. It has been reproduced. Not sure what date they reproduced the stamp.

Now I am not sure how many stamp collectors know of Andrew Swanston. He collected some amazing covers in his lifetime. He wasnt believed that they were genuine. He soon proved people wrong. He even collected the handprint on a first day cover franked 31st January 1961. The cover went for over £3,000. I was not the buyer. I did buy the Dorothy Wilding and the elusive Pietro Annigoni signed cover. Sorry London Bus1 for upsetting u all over again. The cover was signed by Pietro and named and addressed to Andrew Swanston.

The death of the Prince Consort has me looking through my QEII material. My heart goes out to the Queen at what must be a really difficult time. I can only imagine being with somebody for that long, having their undying love and support and then waking up to the difficult demands of Royal life no longer having that support. I have very little material after the 1950s but have collected a few pieces that appeal either by virtue of design or extraordinary engraving. Here's a weird thought, have you ever dreamed of traveling back in time somehow and being able to walk into a Post Office somewhere and buy those gems you've lusted after over the counter? You'd have to do some prep work though before you left, you'd need the appropriate currency for the era of your trip. That might be expensive in itself to come up with? Then there's the clothing, it just wouldn't work to show up in the 19th century in cutoffs and a tee shirt. I've always wanted to go back in time to 1893 Chicago for the Columbian Exposition. Bonus, I'd try to meet Tesla at his pavilion and discuss electric vehicles...... (my son plays this game and says his dream trip would be to the Jurassic period, no worries about clothes or money, win, win). The following group of Canada Unitrade number: 2540 celebrates the 60th anniversary of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II featuring a design that mirrors the 1897 Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee issue. Note the autograph by the engraver Jorge Peral on the gutter pair of sheets with the EIIR Logo. Rob

I'd go back to 1897 to buy Canada's Diamond Jubilee issue! But then I'd need a fortune now to buy money that was in use then! Else I'd have to find work and somehow save up the $17 to buy one set. I'd rather buy full sheets though, and get first day cover's made up as well!

I have researched both HM Queen and Prince Philip's life in detail over many years and didn't expect his death to hit quite so hard if I am honest. I feel so sorry for the Queen losing her soul mate who she met when she just 13 years old.
I am pleased to see all the stories about the Prince but I wish that they had shown them when he retired from public duty rather than his death. His life in the Navy and bravery and the dedication to the Queen and Country.
I also have liked seeing some of his stories about his sense of humour. One of my friends who was female Mayor at the time when he visited Barnstaple was telling me about the time she met him. It was a cold winter's morning but really sunny. He asked if they had been sitting up all night praying for good weather.
All the dignitaries had their outfits dry cleaned for the occasion, only for the Prince to say it smelt like they had all got the outfits out of their mothballed cupboards. Apparently they were told not to laugh at any of his jokes but she said several of the people couldn't help but laugh.

A few years ago I found a old copper plate from a disused house in Northumberland. I sent the plate to a printer. It has been many many months and I genuinely believed I had lost the plate. To my surprise look what turned up in the post. They are incredible. Thought this was a great time to show following REL1948 cover showing the portrait.

Hello Sarah, Here's a set of the Queen Elizabeth II "Karsh" and "Wilding" Regular issues of 1953 and 1954. When I was young, I misread the name Karsh as Harsh and I always associated the "Karsh" depictions as having a "harsh" look. It wasn't the original paintings that were the problem, the engravers failed to convey the subtleties of the painting and the stamps fell short. To me the Wilding stamps show her timeless beauty capturing a kind, beautiful young woman in her prime. Thankfully, (in my humble opinion) the Karsh issue only lasted 1 year. Rob

Two more items. An RNLI first day cover for Her Majesty The Queen's Silver Jubilee 1977 with a Windsor FDC postmark and a Margate Life-boat RNLB 'Silver Jubilee' cachet. Secondly, a rather unusual presentation pack for a special 50th Coronation Anniversary £10 Postal Order from 2003, with a Windsor Berks Post Office Cancel. Scan_20210424 by Daniel, on Flickr
