I am 39 year old ♂ from India living in Kolkata, the birthplace of organized philately in India.
Kolkata is also the place where the first Indian post office Kolkata GPO was established on Apr 1,1774, though before that a private post office was opened in 1727 in Kolkata, at a place now known as the Old Post Office Street.
The first Indian Bishop's mark, the first postage stamps of Br. India (1854–55 lithographs) valid for entire India as well as Myanmar, Straits Settlements etc., all emanated from Kolkata.
The postal systems of Straits Settlements were administered from Kolkata till 1867.
The Philatelic Society of India was established in Kolkata on Mar 6,1897, the date regarded as the starting point of organized philately in India.
Enough said about the postal significance of my city.
My primary collecting areas are Por. India postal history and stamps, Indian forces, PoW and censored mail.
I am member of Philatelic Congress of India (the national philatelic federation of India and Indian representative to FIP), India Study Circle for Philately, Civil Censorship Study Group, Malaya Study Group etc. (I have omitted the societies I have not paid membership fee for this year).
I have built a quite strong philatelic library of over 500 reference books on India and innumerable philatelic journals and auction catalogs.
I can help others if anyone has any question regarding the following aspects of Indian postal history and stamps.
• Br. India postal history including pre-1854 stampless inland mail and letters to foreign destinations
• Pre-UPU Accountancy Markings on outward and incoming Indian mail
• Forwading Agents' markings on Indian mail
• Incoming stampless letters to Br. India and SS
• Postal history and covers of Indian Expeditionary Forces
• Br. Indian Postal Agencies in foreign countries and postal services of other countries administered from India

• Indian Convention States postal history, stamps and stationeries
