Very interesting post, Mark ( mark1 ), and nice-looking stamp, too! I also wonder if it might be an essay, but I have no knowledge in this area. Perhaps others can help.... Londonbus1 , vikingeck , tomiseksj , khj , Ryan , classicalstamps Let's see who responds!
Edit: Actually, I think daniel will know!! Have a look here: www.cinderellastampsforum.com/proofs-and-essays_topic1343.html

This is an unadopted design for the 1929 PUC £1 stamp of Great Britain by a Miss E.M.Jackman who was working at the time with Bradbury Wilkinson. I have no idea if any have been on the market or if the one shown by Mark is an original or not. It could well be a reproduction. mark1....Can I ask how you came by it ?

LB1 is correct. Clicking on the image will enlarge it somewhat, but not sure how readable it will be since it is from a screenshot. PM me if anyone would like a pdf of the entire chapter "The Public Image of the Universal Postal Union in the Anglophone World, 1874-1949" by Richard R. John, which in turn is extracted from the book "International Organizations and the Media in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries". See 2nd to the last paragraph on page 56.

I have just seen the post by daniel on the CSF and am curious as to who, why and where the reproduction came from.

The British Postal Museum also has a pretty comprehensive showing of submitted/rejected designs. Here's the one from Jackman:

Hi Thank you all for the information on this all very interesting Londonbus1 in answer to your question I found it a bulk lot I bought on eBay about 9 or 10 months ago if it is a reproduction I to am wondering who, where and why it seems from the information here on the essays this none of them seem to be perforated or gummed so it would indicate that it is a reproduction. Thank you so much for help I now have more reading to do Edit regarding daniel post the one I have has noting written on the back of it Mark
