Hello everyone,
I found the forum after being directed here by Google when looking for something completely different...
Thanks for accepting my membership request.
I have been collecting stamps for all of my life (a little longer actually, as my mum started a stamp collection for me before I was born) and come from a family of stamp collectors. I wasn't the most enthusiastic collector however until, when 9 years old, my mum went into a stamp shop in Glasgow and the dealer gave me a free Penny Red. I was in awe of this little piece of history. My two daughters (5 and 8) have also now got the bug.
I am a general collector and most things are of some interest to me, although I have a more specific interest in older Eastern European stamps especially Russian Civil War issues.
I'm from Scotland but have moved around a bit in the last few years - will be back "home" on a permanent basis from next year...hopefully!

to TSF! Nice to hear of this collecting family tradition! I am myself a third generation philatelist, but still working on passing it on to the fourth. The Russian Civil War era is a very tumultuous and interesting period. I look forward to learning more about it through your posts!

All the same, it wasn't until primary school age that I became more interested. The gift from the stamp dealer was one of those key moments that helped determine my future obsession! But it also helped having a teacher who was a keen philatelist and a friend who also collected and was often happy to do swaps. Both of my girls have voluntarily decided they like the hobby, and they've joined Kidstamps. So future philatelists in the making (hopefully). |
