Cancels for events and anniversaries are those which are dedicated to a single occasion. The cancels are often only available for one day. They can mimic slogan and/or pictorial cancels. Two different slogan cancels for the Navy Sesquicentennial on April 30, 1948. Both have the slogan, "Sesquicentennial, Navy Department, 1798 - 1948," but the machine cancel has it in a box and the hand cancel has the slogan within the killer bars.

This one falls somewhere between a slogan cancel and a pictorial cancel. It commemorates the launching of the first nuclear merchant ship, the N/S Savannah, on July 21, 1959.

One of my favorite stamps - mostly because of the cancel:

From my Aircraft on Covers collection this 1958 philatelic cover commemorating the centennial of Salina, Kansas, posted here for its matching centennial cancel. The cachet includes a Boeing B-47 Stratojet in flight. The B-47 was the U.S.'s first high altitude, long range jet bomber capable of reaching targets in Russia from anywhere in the U.S. A squadron of B-47s, was based at Shilling Air Force Base in Salina. What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

This cover is rather far from my field of interest but has managed to stay in my cover binder. I know little about aviation but it has been interesting to read about Glenn Hammond Curtiss. This cover and cancel was created for the celebration for what would have been Glenn Hammond Curtiss's 100th Birthday in his home town of Hammondsport, New York. The article in this link does not show or mention in this particular cancel. info.mysticstamp.com/this-day-in-history-may-21-1878/

Post card with bicentennial cancel from Liberty, Texas. Wikipedia notes that Liberty is the third oldest town in Texas. Don StampHinger

Hi all - hope I'm in the right place with this one. What appears to be uncancelled and cancelled labels issued as Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of United States Postage, printed by the Treasury Department in compliment to the Centenary International Philatelic Exhibition, New York, May 17 - 25, 1947. However, the CDS on the cancelled example shows October 22nd, so really not sure what was going on 75 years ago, and grateful if anyone is able to add a little info to help. Many thanks

The sheet was issued May 19, the used one was just used a bit later. Nice cancel though!
Oh, BTW, those are not labels, they are bona fide stamps.

many thanks Peter - also for the correction. I think it was the absence of perfs. that was behind my suggestion these weren't stamps, but agree they look good.
