My name is Jim Cason and I’m a retired career diplomat, and spent Several years as a youngster living in Port Lyautey (now Kenitra) in then French Morocco on a French-American jointly run naval air base. I began collecting stamps with allowance money and accumulated a nice collection of stamps. I stopped upon entering college and, now retired, resumed collecting French Moroccan stamps. I have mostly mint and lack only 4-5 super expensive early issues. I recently bought a nice almost complete collection at auction from France so have quite a few duplicates. I plan to replace my used with mint stamps going forward.

Welcome - French Morocco is one of my favourite countries to collect - just lacking a few of the more expensive ones myself (like those P.P. overprints...).

Hi Jim to a great Forum. In the late 1950's I spent a year in French Morocco, near Port Lyautey and Rabat, on an Air Force communications site (south of Nouasseur). Since I lived in the state of Maine, I spoke a little French (combination of High School and French Canadian). The USAF decided that it would send me there because of that. I had to learn French all over again. It was interesting as I had friends that lived in the Rabat Medina. I saw more of "non tourist" Morocco than most Americans at that time. I collected stamps and started a collection of Morocco (there was a stamp dealer in the Medina). That morphed into a France collection. When I married a Colombian I sold my France and collected Colombia. Jerry B

Welcome! And good to find more Morocco collectors. Have you looked into the local stamps from the period before the French protectorate was established?

Welcome! My sister spent 2 years in Morocco with Peace Corp and loved it. I don't know much about French-Moroccan stamps though. She didn't save any stamps from her time there. I was a little disappointed in her but I didn't collect at that time so I can't be too hard on her.

Are any of you collecting Spanish Moroccan or local posts? I have found most of the local posts. As for Spanish posts, do you mean Spanish Morocco after 1912, or the Spanish offices throughout Morocco from the earlier period? I am collecting the postmarks of all the foreign offices but have made more headway with the French and German postal systems than the Spanish or British ones.
