Any country that encourages skiers to take a flying leap off a platform must contain a few madmen. but I hope tobben63 or blaamand or someone can explain what is going on here ? Is this some crazy sports activity , or are they puffins hung out to dry ? wet suits and scuba gear ? An aircraft or a building ?

Hi, Alex ( vikingeck ), and thanks for your post. The answer to your question is that the stamp, Norway, Sc1543 is depicting a sculpture called "Divers", which is on display in Oslo. The stamp is correctly oriented at 90 degrees from how you are showing it, which may make things a bit clearer. I am having a computer issue at the moment, but will add an image.

Yes indeed, Alex ( vikingeck), that's the orientation from the 2013 Scott Catalogue image: Norway, Sc1543-1545, Scott Design Nos. A558-A560 Design A559: "Divers", Sculpture by Ola Enstad, Oslo

Ski jumping is a popular winter sport in Norway, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and many eastern European countries. Even in Japan, Korea I think. But it is not for everyone. Here is a link to English ski jump Wikipedia. There are several Norwegian stamps with Ski jumping or ski jump venues. As I'm not at home now I have to borrow some images of ski jump stamps from the web. Here is The Finnish ski jumper Matti NykΓ€nen who was the best ski jumper of the period 1982-1988. Tis is the iconic Olympic winter games stamps from Oslo 1952. Here is a link to our national ski jump venue Holmenkollen Oslo. And to conclude, I do not do and have never done anny ski jump longer than 5-8 meters.

Alex ( vikingeck ), just to complete the discussion about the sculpture, here is a photo taken from a different point of view on the work, which may put its appearance into a bit clearer perspective. So, they are figures of scuba divers mounted on wires in the air, to appear that they are swimming underwater. That's my take on it, anyway. When I first saw the image of your stamp, I thought that perhaps it was of bungee jumpers, but something didn't look quite right. Once I realized from the catalogue that the stamp is depicting a sculpture, then I could begin to get the idea. If I ever get to Oslo, I will try to pay a visit to the site of this sculpture, to see how it looks to the eye amongst its surroundings, which to me, would be the real impression of the thing. Here is a link to English ski jump Wikipedia. I've had the pleasure over the years of watching ski jumping in Lake Placid, home of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics. I've seen them jumping in winter, and in summer (with snow surrogate!). It's almost as fun as watching the bobsledders! I think the most insane of all winter-sporters are those who run luge...
