Hi all. I started collecting stamps as a small child using letters from my Uncle He was a dealer and travelled a lot so he had nice stamps. I stopped collecting in college But started in the mid 80’s. I got a MBA in the mid 90,s on my final project was on the “Disintermediation of the stamp collecting industry by the Internet”. Wow have we seen changes, mostly for the better, over the last few decades.
I collect coils, Washington Franklins, German, and Austrian stamps. Look forward to the forums.

Greetings, fkarl, and welcome to TSF! I guess I will need to look up the word 'disintermediation' to understand what your MBA was really all about, although I can imagine somewhat from the context. In any case, enjoy your time with us. -Chris ( Beryllium Guy)

I guess I will need to look up the word 'disintermediation' to understand what your MBA was really all about, although I can imagine somewhat from the context. Disintermediation is a marketing term that describes the internet’s effect of cutting out agents between the buyer and seller. It happened in several markets. Insurance is the big market that was disrupted, but brokerages and stamps/collectibles are another. The internet allowed the consumer to contact the provider directly without parties between. I used to attend stamp shows, collector events, trades and looked through action catalogues to find material. Now a quick search can turn up material almost directly. I remember eBay when it first started, it was almost a direct collector to seller channel. The Internet has greatly changed our hobby. I think for the better. People can collect and interact even if they live remotely or can not travel. Collectors can gets lots of support information, and more material is available. While not due to disintermediation, I also suspect the large increase in Demand and price of gem stamps is also due to their availability.

Pfff[izer]! But not [Pf]aiser Permanente. A traditional maxicard is permanent, once done. Unchangeable. Some non-traditional maxicards can be modular, by temporary juxtaposition of variants of the three elements: stamp, postmark and postcard. Why? To experiment with outcomes. Have read the link to understand terminology....thanks !! dorincard !! A Maxi Card for me is a postal card on Viagra René
