[ADMIN NOTE: This thread was created by moving posts from the Penny Red thread.]Stanley's suggestion is a good one -- it allows more detail of the stamp to be displayed. You can use a free program such as Irfanview to easily manipulate the image.

And use a program i use that can make the stamp have more detail...I just did this quickly to show you what can be done...I use many, many programs to enhance the stamp collecting experience. The second pic. shows a different way of looking at stamps to show minute details..Just saying. Also the 3rd pic shows how i find out whether the cancel or the air mail has been printed and in which order..Notice the "AIR"was printed over top of the "CANCEL".

Will definitely crop more, Stanley. And Steve, I'll look into Irfanview. Robert, what is the program you use to enhance the image details?
Thanks, all.

I used PINTA to sharpen the stamp. I do not use MAC or WINDOWS, but here is one link for you who do.

Just took a quick look at pinta, but a good result will be in knowing which of the features to use. Do you use only the sharpen feature? What about re-sizing? Any other features I should look at?
Thanks, floradd

These software aids are fascinating and thanks for revealing them to a wider audience WERT Ps we have wandered inadvertently a long way from Penny Red , the topic of the thread . Admin can some of these be moved into a new thread like “Software enhancement tools “ so we can find this useful information again more easily? [ADMIN NOTE: Done.]

Well..It does have it's ow place now.. ""Image Enhancement""...Not sure that covers what software does..
1 - Yes image enhancement 2 - Colour identification 3 - Word on stamp placement 4 - Tools to identify possible varieties/oddities/errors/etc./etc. 5 - and many more stamp collecting additives for stamp collecting.
Maybe a better title would be...""Stamp Software""...Just saying.

Thank you for moving this topic to a new thread. I would have not been made aware of all these wonderful options for Abig shout out to those who contributed. All seem to be uncomplicated a a few clicks. This helps a great deal as I am not a person to go and try to figure this out on my.

For simple tasks, Microsoft Photos will crop, sharpen, etc or even Paint for converting screen shots to images. For other tasks I use Adobe Lightroom. LR does not do layers and other graphic tasks and solely focused image enhancers,
I have Paint Shop Pro but have bot used it much to fully understand it.,

On my iMac, I like Acorn from Flying Meat software. It's an excellent graphics program. I also have a couple photo editors, but rarely use them.

Hi Wert, I would appreciate getting the PDFs as well thanks, I will send you an email.
However, I don't think that it is a good idea to post your email address on a public forum, that is a sure way of having your email address swamped by spam. Rather have people contact you via A forum message. If it is too late to edit your post and remove your email address, please ask a moderator to do so. The Gimp is one of my all-time favourite software applications, so I look forward to the PDF's
Thanks, Clive
