Is this a good time to buy the new M1 MacBook? Or would it be better to wait?

Having been a Mac user for 15 years now, if this just came out (which it looks like it may have) I'd wait in case there are any bugs to work out. Apple controls prices pretty tightly so price probably won't change. I'm getting close to upgrading ( iMac Retina) May look at the mini as i already run external drives and PCie cards.
I hope they improve on the mighty mouse!

I asked because I've read that a lot of apps that worked on Intel don't work with M1.

That I had not heard, but I am aware of issues with the OSX itself and some 3rd party software. My iMac has the AMD chip, and previously had the Intel chip, and had few issues when I moved from one computer to the other. The only reason I got a new Mac was because Apple had ended support for the Desktop (PowerMac... I forget what it was called, very versatile as far as hardware
I am currently "stuck" on Mojave, I don't want to get the software upgrades required if i switch to Catalina (or whatever the latest OSX is)
One of the few things I liked about MS Windows platforms is they were fairly backward compatible
another reason to wait a bit

I hate Windows. Mac has much better features. Big Sur is the current OS. I have High Sierra.

I just ordered a new iMac so I could still get one with an Intel chip. Though the M1 is supposed to be able to run software designed for Intel chipsets, I’ve seen quite a few reports to the contrary. Plus, you can’t run Bootcamp on the M1. I didn’t feel like investing a lot of money just to be a guinea pig.
I’ve also been clinging to Mojave, but I’ll be moving to Big Sur with the new iMac. Might run a second partition with Mojave just in case I run into any 32-bit apps that I still need.

I'm running Catalina, but have yet to upgrade to Big Sur. My backup app is broken in Big Sur, so I'll wait...
But ya, I'd wait if you can on the next iteration of the M1.

Just updated to an iMac 24 M1 running Big Sur
I have found some of the third party apps I use no longer work. For example my music player.
Thought fair enough all new operating systems have teething problems so looked into replacing Big Sur with Catalina but no deal. The iMac 24 with M1 cannot run earlier OSXs.
I will have to wait for Apple to release Catalina for the M1 or for the third party app developers to produce a Big Sur compatible version.
Mostly Ok though just a few niggles.

Hi
I stay with Windows. First it is probably the most prevalent in the market. The second reason; I was a systems analyst for a number of years and I write a lot of software for myself and sometimes others. Also if I don't like something in WORD, etc. I can program a replacement. From what I understand I cannot do that with Apple or, if it is possible, I have to use third party software.
