The first stamp show I ever attended was CAPEX '78. Now 44 years later, there's CAPEX '22. I am planning on attending this stamp show. Anyone else? And if the RPSC is looking for volunteers, I'll be available. I volunteered in 1978 and received this nice certificate...
Hmmm, maybe I should re-mount my CAPEX '78 stamps & purchaes etc. I've been meaning to do that. 42 years later, I will. Another project to get started!

I am hoping to attend and will probably split time as a volunteer with the couple of international organizations I help out with.

CAPEX'22 is now less than two weeks away: "Exhibitions are the heart of philately. There one can see the great philatelic treasures and marvel at the exhibits and the love and ingenuity with which they were put together. New treasures are found at auction or in a dealer box. One can learn about new aspects of the hobby in seminars, meet fellow members of clubs and societies, re-unite with old friends and make new friends." Source: capex22.org/Who, amongst us, is lucky enough to be going... Have fun and happy collecting!

It's a go now for CAPEX. Oncologist says I am a special case, with no need to do anything for now. The show has crept up rather fast! I'm not ready for it! How long will it take? Me? Too long! It'll be just for one day though.

Canada's CAPEX22 Souvenir Sheet This special souvenir sheet overprint featuring the two calla stamps of the 2022 flower issue is released in anticipation of CAPEX 22 – an international philatelic exhibition, to be held in Toronto, June 9 to 12, 2022. The souvenir sheet image is of one curled, white calla and one pink calla in full bloom. The CAPEX 22 logo is placed in the lower left corner. Native to the southern parts of Africa, callas (Zantedeschia) were used medicinally before becoming prized around the world for their beauty and their longevity as cut flowers. The white Zantedeschia aethiopica remains the most popular species, but there are now many hybrids, in shades of orange, pink, purple, yellow and nearly black. In the Victorian language of flowers, callas were ascribed a variety of different meanings, depending on their colour. White signifies purity and innocence, while pink conveys admiration and appreciation and near-black evokes elegance and mystery. Next week: 3 S/S will be given away in a special giveaway !!

With ALL the recent purchases I've made, I doubt I'll be going now. I've just spent far too much, but all those purchases will keep me busy for ages! A lot longer than a one-day (aggravating) trip to Toronto!
Hope everyone who goes has an enjoyable time!

She managed to get the day off so it's a Carmen-and-Tracey-Road-Trip for the day for us next Friday... woohoo! I look forward to trying not to give everyone ALL my money, LOL! (since I'll be giving a lot of it to the gasoline companies anyway! ) Registered us last night for early entry. That having been said, I got a confirmation page on the website about my order saying it was received, but no email confirming it? Is that right? Anyone?

With the publication of the CAPEX22 Palmares Catalogues as can be found here, it would appear that the show is over until the next one. I spent some moments over the weekend reading the results and aside from the judges’ liturgy, “We have found that the quality of exhibits shown at CAPEX 22 is very high” ( I think I have heard or read similar exhibit sentiments previously), I was impressed by the breadth and depth of the exhibits. Although one should not necessarily being surprised, this was, after all, an International showing. A few other observations that I gleaned from the catalogue include that despite the strong showing of Thematic exhibits, like other showings, overall, they tend to do not so well with the scoring and judges’ sentiments. In the Traditional category there was a wealth of single-frame exhibits and if anyone is looking for a new collecting area to explore, have a read through the titles for inspiration. It was the Youth exhibits that always draw my attention though and CAPEX22 was not without a strong showing from the under 18 class. Nice to see young people still collect and are proud to share portions of their collections with the larger philatelic community, One exhibit that sparked my imagination was this one - Canada 1988-91 Wildlife Series-Postal Use of Medium Value Mammals (Gold). At the same time, it was nice to see some familiar exhibits being shown and improving there standing in the eyes of the judges. There was one entry though I have followed and although it received a Large Gold at CHICAGOPEX, it only received a Large Vermeil here. Such is the "blood-sport" or "ego-bruising" pursuit that is philatelic exhibiting. For those that were fortunate enough to attend in person, I would be interested in hearing what exhibits or individual items still remain in the mind’s eye? If you were unable to attend, the catalogue does contain several images from each day and as such, one can live vicariously… Have fun and happy collecting! P.S. Apparently, it is not too early to begin planing to be in attendance for Boston 2026 World Expo

Yup! stanley64 , I was mentioning Boston to my travel and stamp buddy Tracey, so I think we may try to do a pilgrimage, as it were... One particular exhibit that impressed me was the one about censored WWII prisoner mail which was most entertaining (the "wait till I get my hands on the Brits" or words to that effect letter from a German POW back to his family. Nope, we're not letting sending you that one out! ) I think the reason for it was because the creator of it just happened to be standing right there when we arrived (he'd been showing it to someone else), so of course, his interest in his topic helped kindle our interest in his topic. Otherwise I might find myself just looking at the title of a particular entry and "meh..." and just moving on... I was also interested to find out someone had already offered to buy the items displayed off him for their own collection, and he was going to do that once CAPEX was done. I'd never thought of that happening! Or of the years of searching that might go into getting enough material for one exhibit. Then again, I have only been to about three stamp shows in my life soooooo... It really was a great experience.
