Hi,
I found this site looking for some information over Venezuela stamps.
I started collecting stamps at age of 10 in my hometown in Venezuela; an Italian classmate introduced me to the hobby and was fascinated. I started with my father’s piled of QSL (radio amateur contacts postcards) mostly from Caribbean, Latin American countries and my school contacts with friend with European relatives, facilitate me several more from Italy, Spain and Portugal. But sadly, I did not had access to philatelic info or a club.
I left the hobby by end 80’s. Around five years ago I found my old collection and decided to back in… but, specialized in Venezuelan stamps. First, started collection stamps series; but, soon extended to IXX and early XX century issues, revenue, cancellation, mints, proof, cinderella, perfins, covers, postcards, forgeries, postal history, bibliography, etc. But still I have several stocks with Canadian, US, Germany, Latin American and topicals.
My, interest also is linked to my passion for the history. I’m fluent in Spanish and that provide me access to literature in that language. Almost 20 years ago we moved to Canada, now I in Calgary Alberta. I’m CPS (Calgary Philatelic Society) member, but here is difficult to find Venezuelan stamps and I don’t know any other collector with the same interest in the country; so, I used the web to be in contact with few others specialized collectors.
Saludos,
elderstamps (Humberto)

Welcome to the Forum elderstamps and nice to meet a South American collector (Venezuela) who lives in Canada !! I used to collect that Country as a WW collector but am trying to be more choosy now with what interests me. I do have some in a Vario Binder I received from a friend but they will eventually go. Hi Humberto! elderstamps - I collect Venezuela! I only collect about 20 countries and Venezuela is my only South/Central American collection. I became interested in Venezuela after spending time there around 1970 during the Golden years. My sister married a Venezuelan she met at University and I visited for two summers. At the time, she lived on the llanos north of Ciudad Bolivar in San Tome. My brother in law worked for Mene Grande as the national head of Security. I have also had a tough time finding ANY Venezuelan after 1980, especially postally used. I try to find a MNH and a used copy for each issue as best I can. To me, the most fun part of Venezuelan philately are the early issues, forgeries, and all of the errors and imperfs that can often be found for very low prices. Also the early engravings - especially the American Bank Note issues - are beautiful. I'm so glad that you joined our group! We have another member who wrote a book, and me and several others who share your interest. terri aka philatelia (Theresa Young) in East Florida

Hola Humberto to a great forum. I also collect Venezuela. My wife is from Tunja, Boyaca and Bogota, so my primary collection is Colombia. However, I expanded to Gran Colombia: Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela. Where did you live in Venezuela? I am sure you know the site ASOFILCA. There was a collector here, Williams Castillo from Caracas, who specialized in ESCUELAS. However, I haven't heard from him in a while. If you wish, you can download my tables for Venezuela: Venezuela . I worked part time for a stamp dealer and the tables were created for the store. All the World-Wide tables are at: StampRefs The only condition for using the table(s) is that they may not be published as there are no permissions to use the catalog numbers. There are some Latin America collectors in the Forum but only a few South America collectors. You can always contact me via the Forum Personal Message (PM) facility. Jerry B

Hello Humberto - welcome from another collector from Calgary! (Although I'm not a collector of specialized Venezuela stamps, I'm just a regular worldwide kind of collector ...)

Also, I have several bibliographic and catalogues (mostly in spanish) and extensive collection of Caracas Philatelic club magazine since early 60's. HA

Welcome to TSF Humberto ( elderstamps), glad you found us :-) Enjoy you time here and I look forward seeing some of your material, hearing a tale or two and perhaps even learning something new, e.g. Venezuelan Railway cancels.
Pull up a chair, there is plenty of room...
Happy collecting!
