February is Black History Month in the USA. To honor that, I thought I would post a couple of the pages I'm working on for Black Heritage. Feel free to add your own thoughts, stamps, projects, whatever.

You have a major Typo with the date in Paragraph 2. 1971. Should be 1791 !

I'm playing with different formats and fonts but I can't find one that I like. I appreciate the feedback.

From what I can see Canada started to commemorate Black History month in 2009 with a single or a pair of stamps. The Black Hockey League stamps were not a part of this series. They are a set of stand alone commemorative stamps. Nevertheless, they are an equally important issue. David

This short video about the stamp is posted on the APS website: There is also a free, downloadable album on the APS website that is current for U.S. Black Heritage series through 2017. It includes blank pages for subsequent issuances.

Beach History Month? I missed that issue!
They must have showcased the beach at Sandbanks Provincial Park, right here in Ontario!

Beach History Month? I missed that issue! They must have showcased the beach at Sandbanks Provincial Park, right here in Ontario! Thanks Peter for catching that typo. I am not sure if that was auto correct. Not sure I would like Sandbanks Park at this time of year. A bit too chilly for sunbathing. I could enjoy something from Sandbanks Winery. David

David Maybe a Freudian slip? I don't know where you all are, but up in here VT we just got a foot of snow. A nice, warm, sunny beach would be nice right about now.

I'll say! I'm north of Rochester on t'other side of the lake. We have some snow, but not near a foot! A bit more expected tonight, but not nearly enough for snowshoes.

Jerry Pinkney, the artist and children's author whose work included the illustrations for the first nine stamps in USPS' Black Heritage series in the 1970s and 1980s, passed away last fall. Here's a memorial cover highlighting his work with USPS, created by ESPER. It bears the 2021 stamp honoring August Wilson, the playwright of Fences and many other great works. I was happy to find an uncanceled example of one of Pinkney's best stamps in the mail recently: Scott 1771, looking only a little the worse for wear.

I just missed the anniversary date of this FDC, one of my favorite recent acquisitions. It's a modern add-on to an original cover for the U.S.' 25c Frederick Douglass stamp, Sc. 1290, issued on February 14, 1967. (Douglass did not know the exact date of his birth, but chose to celebrate his birthday on Valentine's Day.) This could just as easily have gone in the Literature on Stamps thread - Douglass, in addition to being perhaps the greatest orator and abolitionist thinker in this country's history, was also a superbly vivid writer, witness his 1845 Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass. I'm not often interested in add-on cachets, but I like how this one complements the original stamp and brings Douglass to life.
