Hi Everyone,
New member from just outside London, UK. I collected as a child, then came back to the hobby about 5 years ago. I collect British Commonwealth (both mint and used), GB (mint), France (mint up to 1970, plus Mariannes in mint, used, covers, maxi cards), Germany (Weimar & Third Reich mint and covers), Churchill (anything!), football (anything) and the Victoria Cross (the medal - anything). I'm also quietly amassing accumulations of other odds and ends that might or might not form the basis for a small thematic collection one day.
If anyone has any tips on how to narrow your collecting interests down, I'm all ears!!
Looking forward to learning more and hopefully contributing to some threads in due course.
Best wishes, Anthony

Welcome to TSF, Anthony ( antbrown) and thanks for a nice intro! I am a US expat living in Oxford, so not all that far from you in the big scheme of things. Yes indeed, narrowing collection scope is an ongoing issue for many (most?) of us. My biggest step in that direction was to limit myself by time period, mainly pre-1930 for me, with a couple of exceptions. Even so, I still have more material than I know what to do with, so it's probably going to be a lifelong issue.... Enjoy your time with us! -Chris ( Beryllium Guy)

Welcome Anthony to TSF
Where to draw the line is a challenge. I collect much of western Europe and stop most in the 1940's - 1950's
France has expanded into the 60's due to an abundance of stamps. GB is currently limited to QV.
Enjoy your time here

A very belated thank you for all your kind welcomes! I have just re-discovered this forum and will try and get some meaningful posts up to add something to the various conversations!!
Interestingly enough, since posting last (over a year ago) my collecting interests have increased dramatically!! So much for trying to keep it all under control, as per my first post! I shall embrace the chaos of being an (almost) worldwide collector...!!

Welcome, Anthony. Collection creep is something almost all collectors suffer from. You’ll come to accept and embrace it.

Welcome! Narrowing my collection interests? I simply don't understand what that means and we even speak the same language! I, fortunately, will be of no help to you.
I look forward to seeing what you collect here on TSF.

Welcome!
To narrow down your stamp collecting interests, you could escape the traps of exhaustivity and perfectionism.
A bottomless pit for your disposable income? Say no.
You DON'T have to (even if you can) collect EVERYTHING ever issued by some country. Maybe only the best issues, per your taste.
I have representative, sampler collections. I also have specialized collections, of course.
One stamp from every country; the best/most representative stamp I could get. For example, a lemur stamp for Repoblikan'i Madagasikara [Madagascar].
Or, at least 1 stamp for every sport discipline.
Or, at least 1 maxicard for every mammalian Order, if not for every mammalian Species.
For promoting philately/maximaphily, I could show offline and online at least 1 representative sample of a nice philatelic item.
You name it, I have it. You don't name it, I still have it. You don't even know it exists (country or topic), I still have it. "Maybe", for all of the above.
