Hi Everyone,
I'am from Germany (near Nuremberg). Unfortunately I'am not an English native speaker, so I apologize for my bad Englisch.
My father bequeathed his stamp collection to me in 2009. Main collection areas are: Germany, German Democratic Republic, Berlin, Deutsches Reich, Switzerland. But there are some stamps from the United States, too. And I like them very much. Thats the reason for my registration in this forum. Maybe I can find somebody to swap German stamps and stamps from the United States. And maybe I can answer some questions about German stamps in the forum.
Looking forward to learning more and hopefully contributing to some threads in due course.
Best wishes,
Cara

I'am from Germany (near Nuremberg). I was an exchange student in high school and that's the city I lived in when I was in Germany. I really enjoyed my time there and have been back a few times since. I always get bratwursts when I'm there (10 on the heart-shaped plate, if I'm with somebody else, but 12 if I'm on my own and don't need to impress a friend with a touristy thing - yum ...). Ryan

Welcome! I specialized in Germany and US stamps; I just got back into collecting about a year ago after a long hiatus and plan to pick up where I left off on German stamps. I'm sorting through about 100,000 US stamps (mainly 1930s to about 1995) and will have plenty to trade soon.

Hi Stafford,
all four stamps are from "Deutsches Reich"
10 Pfennige (red) so called "Germania" Michel # 71 (issued 1902) or # 86 (issued 1905/1911/1913) or # 141 (issued 1920) - depends on watermark and colour 20 Pfennige (blue) "Germania" Michel # 72 (issued 1902) or # 87 (issued 1906/1907) or # 143 (issued 1920) - depends on watermark and colour
There are about 80 different Germania-stamps between 1900 and 1921 (2 Pfennig to 10 Mark), with many different colours, watermarks and so on. It is one big special area by collecting German stamps. (unfortunately not mine)
50 Mark (darkgreen) "Posthorn" Michel # 209 (issued 1922; at the beginning of hyperinflation after WWI - highest stamp value was in 1923 with 50 Billion Marks on one stamp)
15 Pfennige (red) "Reichspräsident Hindenburg" Michel # 414 (issued 1928)
These stamps are common, but it can not be excluded that they have a specificity in colour or watermark.
Hope that helps.
Regards Roland

I recall the poll of what people collect and Germany was not the top one but seems to me the Germany collectors are more active posters here.

I do not know other Germans in this forum, but if I register myself in a forum I'am interested, I want to learn and I want to help (if possible). And for collecting stamps Germany is a very difficult area reflecting the history of the country in the past 170 years. And I'am interested in history, too. So stamp collecting is a perfect hobby for me.

Some areas of German stamp collecting are frustrating for me, like forged postmarks and overprints being so common, and other areas are lots of fun, especially plate flaws, where there is a ton of info available. Yay German stamp catalogues! ha ha
Some other countries really don't have very much info available in comparison, the collectors obviously have other interests (for example, Iceland stamps with endless amounts of info about postmarks, almost nothing about varieties like plate flaws).

Ryan, you are absolutely right. There is a big big problem with forgeries, especially cancelled stamps and overprints. (I wonder if this is not also a problem in other countries?). But thats the reason why German stamp collectors will not buy a stamp for more than 100 Euros without an attestation of BPP ("Bund philatelistischer Prüfer"), if its known that forgeries exist. I like plate flaws, too The ton of information is the result of many many so called "Arbeitsgemeinschaften" (working groups?). These working groups study in detail the stamp issues of specific areas and then publish books and articles on the results of their work. Cara

I've been a member of TSF for a little over a year now and it's time to do a little recap.
I signed up because I wanted to discover a new collecting area for myself: US stamps.
I had a small stockbook full, especially the stamps from 1930 to 1950 have always appealed to me and I wanted to expand that. And I was hoping to get contacts in an US forum that would allow me to achieve this goal. And indeed, I found some contacts at TSF and have been working on my US collection ever since. Now I have 15 stockbooks full of US stamps, a new Michel USA special catalogue, and all stamps are sorted by Michel numbers. I was very hardworking.
The years 1925 to 1985 look very good, but even the years before 1925 look not so bad. For sure, there are lots of stamps with CV's over 500 or 1,000 EUR I will never buy or trade, but my goal now is to get all the stamps that are price feasible. I think I will collect until year 2000 with all variants as I do for Germany. So lot of work is waiting for me, but the beginning is made with the help of the members of TSF. Thank you!
TSF is an important help with a lot of competent information and what is even more important, with a lot of very friendly and helpful fellow collectors. In general, the way of dealing with each other here in TSF is exemplary!
So I would like to thank everyone for support, advice, tips and tricks and tradings and yes ... I am a proud member of TSF!
Cara
