I started collecting stamps on Christmas day 1954. My parents gave me one of those boxed beginner kits (Minkus) that included an album, a packet of stamps, a stamp identifier and a set of Flags and Coats of Arms stickers to apply in the appropriate locations in the album. I was addicted.
I've collected United States, Canada, France (and Colonies), Germany (States and Colonies), Great Britain (and Colonies), Austria and Iceland. I've sold most of the collections over the years but currently specialize in the Canadian Large and Small Queen Victoria issues and a study of early colonial Africa (plus the volumes of stamps I've kept just because I like the way they look).
A lifetime interest in World History and local Postal histories ties the hobby together for me. I learn something new every day and look forward to the road ahead with the wonderful people on this site.

Welcome to TSF, REL1948 .... it's good to have you with us! My stamp collecting story also started on a Christmas Day long ago, although mine was about a decade or so after yours. Collecting in my youth was just so enthralling. I can remember reading the ads in the back of Boys' Life magazine where you could get 100 stamps for 10¢ from stamp companies who would send approvals. I really like your avatar, by the way, and hope that perhaps I will add one of those beautiful £1 giraffes to my collection one day. Congratulations on yours! Enjoy your time with us, -Chris ( Beryllium Guy ) US expatriate living in Oxford, UK P.S. I lived in Royal Oak, MI back in 1990-91, so not all that far from Utica.
