Over a morning cup of coffee, I dropped in on Virtual Stampex 2021, just to check things out before the crowds arrived ;-) So far, so good. I had a quick 'walk' through exhibits and noted a few to come back and examine in greater detail later. A couple that struck me as well done and worthy of a mention are both "Fun with Modern Japan or Mixing Disciplines" and "GB Machine Cancel Trials 1857-1879". The former being an example of low-cost collecting; who says you need deep pockets to enjoy the hobby as this exhibitor clearly illustrates. The material shown is top drawer, did not cost a king's ransom and certainly a great example of the 'patient collector' On the other end spectrum is the latter exhibit, "GB Machine Cancel Trials 1857-1879" and here the philatelist efforts clearly show. Over the coming days, I look forward to passing through the exhibition area again.
In addition to the exhibits, I made note of the different presentations that are available and have marked my calendar for several of them including one on "The “Wilding Castles” 1955- 1970 by Mike Roberts for RPSL" An advantage of the show being hosted virtually in the UK means that timings for presentations and chats do benefit those of us with clocks showing times closer to GMT.
All in all, good fun and I look forward to participating int he show over the next few days.
If see you me about, give me a tap on the shoulder and say hello...
Happy collecting!

So.. call me confused. I was just on the Stampex site and not much seems to be working for me. I was in the collectors corner trying to access some talks, but most of them do not have links, even though they are future talks. The ones that do have links hold no interest for me. Am I doing this wrong? Were we supposed to sign up for talks in advance? If so, where? And how?

polarbear, I was on the site at the top of the hour as the Stanley Gibbons talk began. There was a countdown clock to zero then a link appeared that took you right into a Zoom room. I had just woken up and wasn't ready for a Zoom, so I cancelled out. I saw mention of 'first come, first served' so perhaps there is a limit on how many people can attend? I went to the 'auditorium' and then clicked the big screen to get to the list I described. There is still a 'join' button for the Gibbons talk that is 40 minutes in at this point.

I watched the Gibbons talk. It was interesting for me, but Not very applicable as I don’t use their catalogs yet. I was trying to get into the more practical aspects of stamp collecting in the lounge area Collector Meet the Team area. I suspect those are not available if there’s a limit.

I did get an chance to watch the talk on the Maltese Cross. It was very good. I felt bad because I was so tired I had to struggle to keep from nodding off! However, I could listen to Howard Hughes talk again. He made it all very interesting.
I also watched the APS talk. That was interesting too. I’m currently not an APS member, but I might be rethinking that. I am, at the very least, going to check out their website more thoroughly.
The Collector Meet the Team chats on various topics - which I finally found in the Collector’s Club of the lounge area - have been a bit disappointing so far.
I can’t even figure out how to get into the booth or exhibit hall. Sigh. Tomorrow is another day. I’ll keep trying.

Glad to hear you were able to catch some of the presentations as well, I missed one myself (got lost trying to find the washrooms), but do look forward to the NY Collectors Club presentation later today.
Given the technology being used, I see no reason for limiting 'space'; there should always be another virtual chair at hand ;-)
Happy collecting!

I was looking around STAMPEX for the last 20 minutes or so trying to understand how things are set up. it was not clear how to see a master list planned unless you go to each area (Auditorium, Lounge). Many are text chats and some are zoom meetings.

Thanks stanley64! I watched the talk about the Perkins Bacon archives this morning. Seems like a good way to access what was happening in the early years of postal history within the Commonwealth.

With that, I believe Virtual Stampex 2021 is over. Hopefully those that found the time and managed to view the exhibits, catch any number of the presentations or simply enjoyed a chat found it a pleasant experience ;-) Myself. I enjoyed the talks I sat in on including Stanley Gibbon's talk on "Dangerous Forgeries and How to spot them". Fortunately, it would appear that all the presentations were recorded so one can go back and view again or watch for the first time when the clock is convenient. I have marked a few for an encore viewing... As well, there were a few good chats to be had and I came away with this bit of Stampex Swag from one of them and look forward to examining these exhibits more in the coming days, One-Page Exhibits.
Until the next one... Happy collecting!
