Hello. I joined the Forum over a month ago but, due to heavy serotinal (today's word of the day) demands, I've not yet participated in any discussions (except the one about album vs. stock sheets). I did choose an avatar stamp, the Saar 25M with a view of Burbach steelworks -- a stunning stamp and my current favorite. If anyone has insights about this stamp, or the other Saars that bear a similar design, I'd appreciate knowing about them. As a collector, I'm an opportunist, amassing anything that is readily available. It probably comes as no surprise, then, that my current interest is classical stamps of all sorts. I look forward to contributing often. Read more: thestampforum.boards.net/conversation/67#ixzz2dyyy6y5x

Stoltzpup- Welcome to the Stamp Forum! If you are who I think you are ( Bud, right ? ;-) you have a lot to bring to this forum. It is always good to have an accomplished WW classical collector on board.

I've been meaning to say, and now found the appropriate thread, that your avatar is truly a stunning stamp. I'd love to see it in a larger size. (You could just post it in this thread.)
And welcome! Thanks especially for your contributions on the airmail board! I'm really enjoying them!

Here's the larger image, Dave. Glad you like it. There is also a 5fr version of Burbach issued for French Saar (Scott 116), plus an overprint and several smaller stamps, but this has spectacular color.

Can you please advise what the vignette is of? How it is described. Thanks.

Here's the 5Fr version, Scott Saar 116. I don't own it but wish I did.

Can you please advise what the vignette is of? How it is described. Thanks. The Burbach Steelworks was one of the major factories of the Saar valley, shown in the stamp as being in full nighttime production mode. If you've ever seen a steel mill at night, as I have Bethlehem Steel many times before it went under, you'll recognize the belching flames. It's a spectacular sight. The following site details the history of the Burbach works: www.saarstahl.com/geschichte_burbach.html?&L=1

Thanks very much for showing those stamps in detail! They are both quite striking, but, you're right, that nighttime one is something else. Amazing also that you were able to find, in English, a timeline history of the plant!
This is one of the great pleasures of philately. Thank you very much!
