Hello! I've been working hard on rearranging my Sweden collection, moving from Vario pages to custom pages built in AlbumEasy. I thought I'd share it here, if there is interest and it's not too much for folks.
Alternatively, I can share a few pages in the DIY thread and then hush up. If folks want to see more I'm glad to share. But I don't want to clog up the place. I made a cover page and introduction page, so figured I'd share them here too. OK, let's get started:

Wow, thanks folks. Here's a few more pages: #1: Skipping Landstorm 1 and 2 series until I get a few more. I really like this page, because the spaces get me revved up to go hunting and fill them. I think of this page as the first Sweden 'commemoratives' although it's still royalty.

Thanks all. My plan is to add 4 pages per day, more or less, until I catch up with my AlbumEasy project, then add as I make more pages. It's been fun to get the collection to this point. I've been building it for 25 years now although I haven't really added to it for 5 years. Making the pages this winter / spring has me excited to get back to adding to the collection as well.

There are two special sets that I haven't built pages for yet. They are UPU presentation sets from the 1920's that are the rarities of this period. I have a few of the lower values but skipped them until I get a few more.
So let's get rolling again at 1928.

It was about here, at the Lutzen set, where I started digging into the history of the topics. So mounting each set took an extra 10-15 minutes as I read up on why these designs might be important in Sweden.

Shout out to AlbumEasy here, because those little footers under each stamp look good to me and no way can I write that small!

Mark, I would like to echo what Philatarium said above and also, it is your font choice for me that really makes these pages pop. Normally I don't think much about fonts but in this case it really makes the page have greater eye appeal.

Oh wow, thanks! I'm a bit of a typeface nerd, so I spent time on choosing them.
The serif font is EB Garamond and the san serif font is Jost. Jost is open source and inspired by the classic Futura Font which I love. (I'm a huge fan of the Field Notes notebooks which got me to appreciate Futura and typefaces in general.)
There are so many aspects of this hobby that I love and the actual design elements are a big part of it for me.

Continuing on, today's installment has some pricey commemoratives and a nice, long definitive set.
Reading about Swedenborg was interesting. His religious ideas are pretty far out, yet folks still follow / study him. The attached booklet pairs (perf 3 sided + perf 4 sided) are quite expensive; if I ever get them, I'll gladly re-build this page. I didn't know Sweden had a colony in North America till this set... Sweden issued many, many stamps in booklet form. I try to display the coil stamps as a 'set' and then get into all the booklet permutations. In the case of the Gustav V right profile series, that means two pages are needed. And since I had a few 'European style' booklet pairs, now I need them all!

Back to scanning. What to do with the Three Crowns? It's a very long running set and they looked plain to me in catalogue order, so I read a bit and, thanks to the amazing Swedish Definitives blog, I decided to sort the issue by Engraver and year of issue. Made for a more interesting grouping in my opinion. A real specialist would know all the postage rates that these stamps covered, but that's a level or two deeper than I go at this point. First appearance of Slania in the collection! At this time, the booklet stamps contained perf 3 sided and perf 4 sided stamps. I'm collecting both as singles, although would gladly rearrange to accommodate a 3+4 pair if one turned up. My eyes are getting weaker; gotta get a few of those mounts a little straighter.

An interesting note is that the 1.05kr stamp must have been planned to be issued a few years in advance, since Sven Ewert passed away already in 1959. M. Ewing engraved a lot more Swedish stamps after switching her last name to Franzén.

Thank you norsten ! M. Ewing engraved a lot more Swedish stamps after switching her last name to Franzén. ooh, interesting. I didn't know that! That explains why she is listed as M. Ewing (Franzen) in my catalogue. I'll keep an eye out for her in future issues (currently working on 1965.) An interesting note is that the 1.05kr stamp must have been planned to be issued a few years in advance, since Sven Ewert passed away already in 1959. I agree with you there! The 2.10kr stamp is in the same boat. I wonder if my Facit catalogue is in error, either with the engraver or the issue dates. I better stop thinking about this, lest I join a specialty society and buy a stamp microscope to hunt for clues.

For today's installment, we're starting to get into a more consistent pattern. Two stamps per issue, with the low value available in booklets and coils. And the booklet stamps are have a left or right straight edge. Insofar as the booklet stamps are concerned, I mounted what I have. Sometimes that's a single straight edge, sometimes it's two and sometimes it's a left + right pair. Because the stamp printings got more consistent (I refuse to say 'less interesting' I spent more time reading about the subjects. That pair on the bottom isn't a traditional '3+3' pair but I liked it so I put it in the album. I really, really like the elementary school issue. Two perforation orientations, surly looking school trustees, what's not to love?

Happy Wednesday (or whenever you read this. ) Today's installment is celebrates old buildings, famous Swedes, expatriates and two sets of an aging King:

I like the 90th Birthday set. To me, the King looks 90 years old on the stamp. He looks frail to me.

Today's installment brings us a new King, with the Gustaf VI Adolf semi postals. The definitive set with all the booklet permutations will make an appearance in a special mini-volume once I mount them.
Here's a page for the 'So Close' thread. And another! Those pesky booklet singles... And a rather straight forward low value definitive set. I like this design quite a bit.

OK! Today's installment brings us to the end of Volume 1. You'll see why at the final page. Right off the bat, there is an intriguing stamp regarding Sweden's "New Flag." It's a reminder of the complicated history between Sweden, Norway and Denmark over the years, of how territories got traded about and parliaments began exerting more control over their Kings. All of which I would never ever think about if it weren't for stamps. And specifically, writing up these album pages. How many years have I looked at "Oscar II" and "Haakon VII" stamps without any idea of how Haakon VII came to be King? Argh. I see a typo on this page. On the next page too. That's annoying. Likely not the first typo, though. And by the way, how can you not love the simplicity of the Football stamps? Sweden hosts the World Cup, for goodness sake, and issue this simple kickabout stamp. While Sweden makes the final and Pele makes history, we get a boy and a ball. Lovely! What's that? My catalogue says the designer of the Steel set is 'X-Et.' Some digging taught me that he was a famous contemporary artist in Sweden. Oh, the things we learn through our stamps! And with the first issue of 1959, and the last engraved by Sven Ewert, I close the book on Volume 1. More to come, but not for a while. I'm still building pages for Volume 2 and have all the mounting to do as well. And those Gustaf VI Adolf definitives to mount. And more stamps to buy. And possibly a giveaway to enter. And summertime is coming.
