For those that don't know, the Hawid Glue Pen allows you take any mount and shorten it. It comes with a metal ruler, and what looks like a felt tip pen. You lay the ruler across the mount, run the pen alongside it and close the mount and apply pressure. The line you drew will be a weld point for the mount, and you just cut off above the new weld point you made.
It makes it easy to make nice mount for stamps that Showgard/Hawid/Scott/Schaufix don't make a mount size for.
In the past, every time I have tried to make a line, it's come out slightly crooked. The stamp usually fits. But I end up needing to leave more of the extra mount than I want.
Yesterday, I had to make 2 mounts for Ukrainian stamps and was kind of dreading it. I didn't take pictures of this, so I will try to explain what I did.
I put the stamp in the mount and push it down as far as it would go. I then took a large Post-It™ and stuck it to the front of the mount at the point I would want to put the line. I made sure the Post-It was completely flush with the side edge of the mount.
Then I removed the stamp, flipped the mount over and used another post it to hold the top flap open and secured it to a piece of cardboard. I secured the closed bottom of the mount to the cardboard using another Post-It™
I then dropped the metal ruler across the mount, using the first Post-It™ as a guide to make sure the line was straight. Ran the Hawid Pen across the metal pen edge making sure to start OFF the mount and progress onto it, and go off the the other end of the mount and onto the cardboard. I did this 3 times. Then I gently undid the top Post-It™ and gently lowered the flap onto the clear part of the mount.
I used the metal ruler to slide back and forth across the mount to make sure the weld was good. I waited 5 minutes and cut the mount to size.
The line was PERFECT.
I don't if my description makes sense to anyone. But it was the first time that I was able to get a perfect line with a Hawid Glue Pen.
