Many stamps feature musical instruments.Some instruments are common and universal, others are known,more or less,locally only. I start with some korean stamps:
Pyen-kyeng,a carillon; stamp issued Dec.17th,1963;

The Clavichord is a fascinating instrument.Here on a stamp,commemorating Mozart´s 200th birth-anniversary,issued Jan.27th,1956.
The Clavichord almost disappeared at the end of the 18th century,due to the advance of the Cembalo and the Hammerklavier (piano). Only in recent years it became "popular" again,after it was achieved to build them in a similar good quality like the instruments of the 17th/18th centuries. Some of the best pieces of music ever,like "Das wohltemperierte Klavier" by Bach,were written for the Clavichord.Mozart often took with him a Clavichord,when he had to travel,because of the small size of his instrument. Today it could be an ideal instrument for people living in flats,because it is very much less "noisy",than a piano.

Here is a set from the DDR, just received, of musical instruments, issued October 26, 1971. All unfortunately hinged, but what can you do, at least they were cheap!
The instruments are: 10pf: Darbuka from North Africa;: 15pf: two Morin chuur's from Mongolia; 20pf: Violin from Germany; 25pf: Mandolin from Italy and on the 40pf: Bagpipe, not from Scotland, but from Bohemia.
True to form, the least number printed of this set, in this case the 70pf, is missing, unless it is buried in one of the THREE (not 2) cards!!

Was scanning stamps from my DDR album all afternoon.Probably the best buy I ever made.Not because it was a bargain, but the stamps are nice and educational.Especially when you were risen and had lived in Western Germany.
The missing "Sperrwert" shows a "Kasso" from Sudan,a kind of crossbreed between a Harp and a Lute.

The "Eo" (also Eu) is a kind of percussion-instrument. Built from wood in the shape of a tiger,it´s back has a saw-like elevated runner. The player scratches with kind of whisk made from bamboo over that runner,generating a scratch-sound. Issued April 20th,1974.

The "Ajaeng" sounds like a cello,but more rough. A wooden stick is used instead of a bow,although in modern times some musicians use horsehair-bows. Occasionally the strings,what are made from silk,are also plucked. Stamp issued June 20th,1974.
