Now WERT , these penny reds with letters in the 4 corners will all have the place numbers engraved in the side decorations. Between no 71 and 225 there are a few scarce numbers which are worth a premium . If you are not aware of the numbers turn the stamp sideways to see them. (If you are very lucky you might have a 225!)

... Not an EFO. A printed cancel that allowed the agent placing the stamp(s) on a document to add the month, day and last digit of the year (8 or 9) of cancellation. The images are from 1898revenues.blogspot.com/

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

These 2 1854-57 Denmark stamps were rescued along with several hundred pre 1900 stamps that were all glued in an old album I acquired about 20 years ago. The catalogue value of the items I was able to save was quite high but I also watched many great stamps fall to pieces when soaking. The green one is either a Scott 5 or 5a 8 skilling. The grey lilac is a Scott 6 16 skilling. They are not the greatest examples but still nice to have on the first page of my Denmark collection.

I Don’t do Scott numbers, But if it helps to identify the green Danish stamp , the space between the square frame and the circular wreath , “the spandrels”: come in two formats either dotted or wavy lines. The earlier issue has dotted spandrels which is your stamp.

The earlier issue has dotted spandrels which is your stamp. The Scott 5 is the earlier one as you mention in green. Their 5a is a yellow green which I suspect mine may be but without others to compare it to it is hard to confirm. The cancellation on what I believe is the 16 skilling Scott 6 is covering the number to the point I cannot see the 1. Scott does not show any other stamp that it could be in that shade. I have several other stamps with the wavy lines too so it was fairly easy for me at the time I received them to tell they were both from that earlier set.

Compared to mine 8 S. yours looks more light-green,than yellow-green.But perhaps it is a question of the scanning. I think Michel is wise,to list just green as colour and no more shades.
The 16 S.,I do not own and can only compare it with the rouletted one from 1863. As that is red-lilac compared to grey-lilac of the 1857 one,it does not help to judge, wether your stamp is faded or not.
The missing "1" is perhaps down under the "6".The stamp is a wreck and if repaired,it was done very, very badly. But that is probably what you meant, with "stamps fallen to pieces, when soaked".

I had not thought about the 16 S having been repaired because one would have assumed it would have fallen to pieces in soaking but upon taking a photo of the back it does appear it may have been re-backed. Also in better light and looking with a jewellers loop it would appear that the 1 may be under the 6. No matter, it is just as found item in my WW collection that was too interesting to throw out. Thanks for your input salentin .
