Hello everybody. My name is Graham and I live in the county of Devon in South West England. I stumbled onto this forum while trying to find out some info on a signoscope watermark detector. I have been away from the hobby for many years but I have kept all my albums and what little equipment I had. I first started collecting stamps in my early teens. Family and friends always saved stamps for me and I soon became hooked on GB stamps. I bought a set of Stanley Gibbons one country albums and expanded them with the annual supplements. Life then got in the way a bit and the last pages I have are from 1994 so I’ve got a lot of catching up to do. I have my own YouTube channel ‘Radiocruncher’ dedicated to my radio obsession which is another story. Whilst browsing YouTube one day I came across a video about the one cent magenta. That really sparked my interest and started a hunt for all my old kit, which is now all over the kitchen. My interest is mainly GB especially the Machin’s and Wildings. I love to hunt out differences in shades, papers, watermarks, phosphor bands, flaws etc. I’m sure there are many here with similar interests and I look forward to hearing from you through this great forum.
All the best
Graham

I’ve bought a non working Signoscope T1 from Ebay. I haven’t got it yet but I was searching for a manual as I don’t know how it works. My current watermark detector is a Morley-Bright with the ink pad and I have lots of trouble trying to see watermarks unless they are obvious especially on the GB Wildings.

radiocruncher Here is a link to the manual. I believe this is the same manual that came with my T1. Thank you very much jpotx113. I searched for the manual and couldn't find it. Looks like the detector will be here early next week so it will be interesting to see whats wrong with it.

My current watermark detector is a Morley-Bright with the ink pad and I have lots of trouble trying to see watermarks unless they are obvious especially on the GB Wildings. Unfortunately the Morley-Bright is no longer made and replacement ink sachets are now unobtainable. Do be careful when using it though, I have heard tell that the ink sachet can burst as they age and ruin whatever stamp one is viewing. True or not, since hearing that I am much more nervous when using my now ancient but still very effective Morley-Bright Inst-a-tector. Clive

Welcome Radiocruncher, You found a good place to land for a great philatelic experience. Share what you have and what you know. Ask about the areas you have questions. The expertise and experience level on TSF runs deep. I learn something new every single day that I log onto TSF and I've been collecting since 1954.
Rob in Michigan USA
PS During my "Audiophile" years I was a keen FM listener (Detroit used to have Jazz and Classical stations that were simply superb) with an expensive highly modified Sansui deck and a roof antenna that went forever. Your title "Radiocruncher" could mean a lot of things including Shortwave as well as outright collecting. I've been to several antique radio club shows and sales. Let us know your interest.

Thanks for the heads up Clive. There is a knack to using it but I just can’t remember how

Thanks for the warm welcome Rob. I collect, repair and restore old radios. Mainly transistor types but I do dabble with the odd valve set. I’m a keen shortwave listener and a full licensed radio ham. I also have a collection of vinyl records which I play on my Linn deck. Thanks for the interest. Graham
