For the past few days I have been reading folders and articles from my late dad's 80s period -brought recently by my brother. I came upon a folder with many articles, mostly in "french" and found one in "english" of interest, surrounding Canada Post's choosing of a drawing submitted by MARC FOURNIER, a young 12 year old Scout who's submission was supported by my late dad (Editor-Publisher of a french Newspaper Le Madawaska, Edmundston, New Brunswick). Marc's drawing was chosen in a contest where thousands of entries came from all over Canada, chosen and issued by Canada Post for the XVth Jamboree not far from Calgary, Alberta. This stamp as shown in a PB bears Unitrade Canada Specialized # 993, 32ç, and the PB does mention the name of Marc Fournier (drawing) and Montréal designer Francois Dallaire.

Great back-story, René ( renden), thanks for sharing! Just as a point of interest, although Boy Scout World Jamborees normally happened every 4 years, the 15th WJ in 1983 was preceded by the 14th WJ in 1975, which I attended in Lillehammer, Norway. Originally, the 15th World Jamboree was supposed to have been held in Iran in 1979, but it was cancelled due to problems in the host country, so there was no official World Jamboree that year, which created a gap of 8 years between the 14th and 15th World Jamborees. Thanks for posting this interesting article!

Thanks for sharing this renden . I was actually at the Jamboree in Kananaskis! I was in a Venturer troop from Regina, Saskatchewan. Venturers are one step older than Scouts. The boys in my troop stayed in the program an extra year so we could go on the trip.
I have a few memories from the Jamboree. There was a Swedish contingent with girls in their troop. Being a 16 year old prairie boy, only hearing vague references to Swedish 'art' films, these were exotic creatures indeed. We went kayaking on a mountain lake and most of my friends flipped their kayaks. As it was a glacier-fed lake, if you fell in you had to get out of the water and dry off on shore. I made it through the entire hour without a problem, until a gust of wind blew my hat off and as I reached for it, I rolled my kayak. And yes, it was frigid. Most of the week was spent doing various outdoor activities as day trips or half-day trips, but the highlight was an overnight hike. We hiked through the mountains all day and then set up camp. After supper we sat around whittling. I had a nice lock-blade jack-knife and was working on a piece when my knife slipped and I cut my thumb pretty badly. Since we were out of camp, on the hike, they radioed a medical helicopter to take me to the Jamboree hospital for stitches. Took six stitches in my thumb and spent the night in the army-style hospital tent.
I
To this day, whenever we do ice-breakers at a meetup and I have to tell 'two truths and a lie' and people try to guess the lie, I always include "I have been air-lifted off a mountain" and everyone thinks I'm lying! I still have a scar on my thumb too. It's faded some, but hey, it's been 40 years!

Here is the Boy Scout Patch they gave to participants. It seems strange that the patch and stamp do not have too much in common. (I did not go there, just copied this from an ebay site.)

Well. I either need to write my memoirs right now, or focus solely on writing fiction. Because my memory is fading.
I wasn't at the World Jamboree in 1983. I was at the Canadian Jamboree in 1981. It must have been a warm up event to the Big One two years later.
This makes more sense as I just turned 15 in July 1981, and would've been 17 and out of scouting by 1983. ** Warning - Big Yarn Ahead ** At our bakery, we did this fun thing called Fancy Apron Friday, where our bakers would wear their oddball, fancy aprons one day per week, usually after the bulk of production was done, so they didn't get the fancy aprons all dirty. Heather had one that looked like an owl, Teisha had a chicken, etc. etc.
I didn't have a fancy apron so my wife Cindy made one for me, sewing a bunch of my old Scout badges that she found in a box onto a nice apron. I wore that on Fridays. I still have the apron hanging on a hook in the kitchen and looked closely at it this morning. All the badges are from CJ 1981! Now, the kayak, the helicopter and the Swedish girls are all real. Honest. Just two years earlier.
