Global Stamps used to be in Olympia, WA and had a very primitive ordering system on their website. Now the site ships out of Sindey, OH, which is suspiciously the home of Amos Press. And they have a much better ordering system.
I welcome the move to Sidney, since I am in Bensalem, PA. Stuff gets to me much faster than it did from Olympia, WA.
Does anyone know what exactly happened with Global Stamps. Did the previous owner sell the site. Did he retire and his kids took it over?
One thing I find strange is: Global Stamps is Sidney, OH, and Subway Stamp Shop is in Altoona, PA. Both sites use the Shopify as their shopping cart. Altoona, PA is 4 hours from my house. Sidney, OH is about 9 hours from my house.
Global Stamps shipping charge for mounts is ALWAYS cheaper for me than Subway Stamp Shop. That's something I don't understand.
And to add a question to this discussion, where else do you order stamps from besides Global Stamps?

I recall reading that the new owner was a former employee of Amos Media. I gave up on Subway due to being out of stock of something on orders..
I do not think I have ordered from Global since then as this was around the time I switched to HAWID top loading mounts. I will be ordering mounts in the next month or so would consider them again if they have not changed their minimum for free shipping. I ordered my HAWID from Wizard Stamps in Virginia and they ship next day too. Global was always cheapest on $35 to $75 mount orders when shipping is factored im.

I order all my mounts from iHobb. They're about the same price as Subway, and significantly cheaper than Global. Even though Global has free shipping >$35, iHobb shipping is only $6, which you can make up in savings pretty quickly just on the cheaper base price. Plus, they're very quick and I've never had issues with things being out of stock.

I just checked out iHobb, and they seem to have all the sizes that Global Stamps carries that Scott and ShowGard do not. I'll give them a try next time I need mounts.

I do see some occasional shifting in mounts if the page is handled roughly as when trying to remove the page from the scanner. You can also break the mount spine (what happens with a bound book spine) if opened too far. At the moment, i find the convenience outweighs the risk.

I have used the top loading mounts exclusively since I stared collecting back in the early 70’s. Never had a problem, unless the album was dropped. Then maybe a few stamps needed to be re-positioned. Give me the the open top mounts any day! Like angore says, it’s the convenience factor.

How well do they work for souvenir sheets? No good - !! René So great for individual stamps, and maybe se-tenants. But split backs are better for larger items.

Souvenir sheets are just fine. Most of the ones I've mounted are not quite big enough, so the top portion of the sheet sticks out a bit. But no issues whatsoever with them either. Same for covers. I have used them in that way too. No issues!

I will add that I use spit back mounts for stamps over 35mm.
