Scott 294-299, The 1901 Pan-American Exposition Issue
The first commemoratives of the twentieth century were also the first bi-colored postage stamps printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. Six stamps in denominations of 1-cent, 2-cent, 4-cent, 8-cent and 10-cent were issued to publicize the 1901 Pan-American Exposition held in Buffalo, New York.
The stamps depict modes of modern transportation. All the stamps bear the inscription “Commemorative Series 1901.”

I was looking through some old US accumulation last weekend and found these beauties in several envelopes. I put them on stock sheets to sort them. It was a pleasant surprise seeing them again. I was able to put together examples of Fast Boat, Slow Boat, Rising Boat and Sinking Boat, Fast Train, Slow Train, Flying Train and Falling Train and a group of Top and Bottom Straight Edges with exceptional centering...
