The India 1973 20P Indian Miniature Paintings: Radha stamp (SG 681/Sc 577) was based on the painting Radha (1778) by Nihalchand (1710–1782), an exponent of Kishangarh School of Painting. The painting is now in the collection of National Museum, New Dilli. Though the painting was officially of Radha, the Goddess of Love, Compassion and Devotion, the model for it was Bani Thani, mistress of Samantsinh Rajsinh Rathaur (1699–1764), ruler of Kishangarh State (1748–1764).

I haven't really given any thought to portraits/paintings relating to stamps until I came across this thread. Kudos to you @wert. One stamp I want to post here is my first Ukraine stamp that arrived the other day. Because I can't speak the language, I did some research on it. Issued in 2020, the stamp comes from a 1967 painting by Ivan Botko and it is called "Queue for Bread." The location is the port of Kherson. I like his abstract painting and the meaning behind the title of it. Credit: Article and painting published by History Rayon on August 7, 2023.
