Hi I am collectordave.
I currently live in central Portugal.
I have been collecting stamps for close on 66 years as you can guess I am now retired, over that time my interests have changed quite a lot and now I collect whole world.
Many years ago I became interested in one country albums thinking that is the way to go.
I started programming at roughly the same time.
Over the last thirty years I became interested in encouraging new collectors and looked at what a collector wants. A catalogue of some kind to check their stamps, a database of some kind to record what is in the collection and for some a way of printing album sheets for their collection.
There are of course other tools needed.
So I started a one man project called World Stamp Collector in an attempt to bring all this together. The application is for the MAC and Windows computers and is FREE to all.
When I can I will start a thread on the forum so the application can be discussed.
If someone can point to where is the best place on the forum to start the thread I will be grateful.
Kind Regards
collectordave

Some quick info:-
The application is list based, so for example you can add catalogue numbers to stamps from many different catalogues and then have these sorted the way you wish. This means that after entering the relevent numbers and sorting you can search on that list and the data will be presented in the order chosen.
You can create your own list for your collection so if you do not collect varieties or expensive stamps you do not need to see them. Your list can be sorted anyway you wish as well.
This means that you can print your own album pages with the stamps presented in the order you want. These album pages are produced automatically.
You can also select and print wants lists based on searches either as text or using available images. I usually print a wants list of a country I am interested in as images when visiting collectors markets or stamp shops.
Be aware the album pages can best be described as utility pages which is why I recently added an export facility which will produce an AlbumEasy compatible album for further modification to your liking.
There is also an image recognition facility a rough perforation gauge and an image magnifier.
Just a short list.
Lots of data still to collect about 440,000 stamps in the database as yet.

Sorry about the quick response.
The latest suggestion I am working on is the catalogue portion. I cannot add lots of commercial catalogue number etc due to copyright issues. So to solve this I contacted StampWorld and they kindly gave me permission to add their catalogue numbers and links to their site.
When added and you display data on a stamp if the link has been entered it can be clicked and your browser will open displaying the set of stamps from which the current stamp is from.
It also means that you can search Stampworld for a stamp note its number and search directly in the database for that stamp.

First let me thank all for the welcome.
After starting this project more than thirty years ago I have come to realise that stamp collecting even in its simplest form is quite complicated.
Most software on offer is composed of simple lists of stamps which cannot be manipulated, sometimes they have a particular publishers catalogue numbers added which is great if you collect to that publishers catalogue.
It is also a pain with copyright laws so you need to ask permission to add those numbers and quite often pay which is a little ridiculous for free software.
So there are many catalogues with added to that, you soon realise that every collector collects in a different way.
It makes any application attempting this quite complicated.
I have joined the forum to get honest feedback from collectors who can suggest further tools or facilities to add to the application.
My problem now is how to get the idea across?
I have decided that it may be best to start by explaining some of the concepts behind the application.
I will start a new thread and explain as best I can the important concepts, please feel free to comment remembering no question is silly it just means I have not explained it well enough.
I will add a link here when thread started.

Welcome Dave. The software sounds very interesting but complex. I look forward to leaning more about it.

Hi All Stamp collecting as a whole is quite complex and the application has to be a little complex to match this. After using the application it becomes so much simpler. In looking at how to introduce the application I have decided to start threads explaining each aspect, the first one explains how World Stamp Collector handles lists and can be found here:- Link to List threadPlease feel free to comment and ask questions
