Why do all Scott albums hide the catalog number once the stamp is mounted? This seems silly to me. I wish I could easily see the catalog number once the stamp is mounted.

I put the numbers under the stamp too. That way, all needed are clearly visible, but not really needed once mounted!

my main nit about covering up info once stamp is mounted is who knows if it is the correct stamp? I have purchased more than a few albums and discovered at some point the original owner just started putting stamps on any open spot!
but that's just me (and in my youth I was 'maybe" one of 'them")

I like to see the number. I looked at Stanly Gibbons pages and they have the stamp number clearly visible under the stamp. I just think it's useful information.

Hi
I write the Scott number under the stamp. In addition, I write the Barriga and Temprano numbers for Colombia and the Blanco number for Venezuela (specialized catalogs for Colombia and Venezuela). For more modern issues, just the Scott number.

I like the catalog number under the stamp since once I have the stamp it is not nearly as important. For custom pages, I reserve the space for other information that better defines the issue (perforation, printer, tagging, etc.). This comes into play when there are multiple same design issues but different characteristics.

I prefer not to see any numbers once the stamp is in place, but available under the stamp mount, that's how I do my custom pages. Numbers (Sc, Yvert, denomination, colour, perf/wmk (if applicable) all go in the stamp box. Purely aesthetic choice, just think it looks cleaner.

I would prefer the Scott number to be visible once the stamp is mounted. Especially if you have a page full of stamps and can't see any of the numbers on that page. I don't always need the number, but I think it would be helpful to still see it. My Mystic albums hide them, as you all know, and the full pages make it a challenge to know what the number is.
