I'm currently printing my St. Helena album pages and have reached the 1922 Colony's Badge series. I have a complete sheet of the ½d value (60 stamps) where the stamps and top selvedge are completely separated vertically in the middle apart from the 10mm selvedge at the bottom of the sheet. As it stands, it is currently too large for any album so spends it's life stuck in a large book and thus seldom viewed. If I was to separate the two halves (only joined by the lower 10mm selvedge) I would be able to mount each of the halves in my album and it would then be viewed much more often and make the album more interested. I'm sure the correct answer is leave as is, but what would you do?

Personally I would leave this as is, especially if the sheet does not already have any perforation damage. Premiums on full sheets are often very large and this does not appear to be a sheet with a trivial value. It is likely USD $600 or more as is given usual premiums for full sheets but I would expect you would cut that an about a 1/3 if you were to divide the sheet.
Of course this depends on what you collect for. I personally really like having a collection that views well and spend a lot of time doing so and while I am quite conscious of the values of items in my collection, that is not my primary purpose for collecting. Even with those views, Canadian stamps are my focus, yet I do have nearly 100 full sheets of Canadian stamps that I would never think of including in my collection even though they are rarely viewed.
Happy Stamping!

Michael, I would leave it alone. It will retain more value, left as intact as it is.

REL1948 is correct...never, never degrade a full sheet. I have sheets that fit in books.....My opinion only.

I have several full sheets from a couple of countries, in my case they just barely fit on a 8-1/2 x 11 page. even though some selvedge has separtaed I woul d (as others have said) leave the sheet as intact as you possibly can.
You could also moun tin a frame if you have wall space!!

I am a bit confused by the replies to michael's initial post, or am I missing something ? The sheet is practically in two pieces joined only by a 10mm piece of selvedge. It also looks from the image as if a Stamp doctor has stapled the split together so why keep this together ? If the info given is correct and the image is not lying then I would do the honorable thing. There will be no premium on this sheet. Londonbus1

Regarding the nearly separated sheet. I would leave it as is and try to find an exhibitor or market for it for an exhibitor who could use it to show the plate layout, I assume for all similar values.
I think its neat!

Thank you for your comments. Yes, it's just the bottom 10mm so I don't think it would affect it's sale value and a dealer would probably split it into blocks. It's also never going to be sold in my lifetime. This stamp is famous for it's varieties including 'broken mainmast', 'cleft rock' and 'torn flag' and it was bought for that purpose. There is a 140 page book by the West Africa Study Group detailing all these printing and plate varieties. This is a later sheet and has the 'torn flag' retouched. It does look nice as a sheet, as the join holds it togther, so that's the main reason I haven't split it. It's just that now I'm printing a custom album rather than the KABE printed album it's replacing the temptation is there, so that it can be more readily viewed. Sorry for the poor scan, I usually view it digitally in two blocks and I badly stitched them together for this post. A view of the join as scanned 9 years ago.

Great stuff michael , thanks for showing. Always a joy to see anything related to this series :-)
I think with all the comments you have all the input you need; the decision not to split up the sheet is a good one. At the same time, seeing the original posting with all those St. Helena stamps brought back fond memories of Ralph, a cherished and valued mentor...
Happy collecting!
