"Masia" or traditional Catalan farm. This one is called "La Masia del FC Barcelona" as it belongs to our team. The area, was rural, up to mid XXth century. Now, it's inside the city of Barcelona.
For many years, this Masia housed the FC Barcelona soccer boarding school. People like Pep Guardiola or Lionel Messi, were raised here. Now, it's just a symbol as the school has been moved outside our city.

Luther´s house again. Issued Oct.17th,1967. (from a set of 3) Luther´s house originally was part of a never finished monastery, where he lived when he was monk. During the Reformation the moanstery was dissolved and Luther got the building as his home as a present.

"Schiller´s Wohnhaus" was built in 1777.Schiller bought the house in 1802 and lived there till his death in 1805. His widow Charlotte and their four children lived there, till Charlotte died in 1826. In 1827 the children sold the house. In 1847 the city of Weimar bought it and converted the house into a museum. Badly damaged by allied bombs in 1945,but it was repaired immediately after war and was reopened in 1946. Today the house, since 1998 a UNESCO-World-Heritage-Site,is part of an ensemble of museums.
Stamp issued Nov.10th,1959 (from a set of 2),commemorating Schiller´s 200th birth-anniversary.

10 Pfg.: "Alte Waage" (old scales-house) in Leipzig. Built in 1555,it housed the official scales, where all goods, sold at the Leipzig fairs, had to be weighed. It was in use till 1820.In 1943 the house was destroyed by allied bombs. After the war other buildings were put up in it´s place. In 1963/64 a modern building was erected, with a replica of original front (and the front only).
20 Pfg.: "Alte Börse" (old stock exchange) in Leipzig. The baroque-style house was built in 1678-87 and was in service till 1886,when a new stock-exchange was opened. Completely burned out because of allied bombs in 1943,only the outer walls remained. It was rebuilt 1955/62. But the rich interior of frescos and stucco-ceilings is gone forever.Today it is used for cultural events.

The "Gohliser Schlößchen" in Leipzig. The building of the summer-residence of the city-councillor and master builder Johannes Caspar Richter began in 1755/56.However due to the "Seven-Years-War" (1756/63) it was not completed before the 1770th. Surrounded by a fine baroque-garden,it was built in style of the Rococo.(The stamp shows the center part of the building only.) Due to the long time of building, however, the interior is in the style of classism.
Given to the city of Leipzig at the end of the 18th century,it changed the owner twice, before it again became Leipzig´s property in 1906.However because the city is short of funds, the house is managed by a private trust, who use it for gastronomy and cultural events etc.
Stamp issued Feb.22nd,1962

The "Romanus-Haus" in Leipzig was built in 1701-1704 by Franz Conrad Romanus. At the time Romanus was the mayor of Leipzig. However the building-costs were more than he could pay for. So he forged city-bonds to get the missing funds.Because of that he was incarcerated in 1705 and remained imprisoned for the rest of his life, till 1741. The Romanus-Haus is a baroque-building,planned and used as a dwelling-house of the upper-class. It changed ownership several times, but is still privately owned. Today it is used as a business-premise. The stamp shows only the smaller eastern front of this street-corner house. Stamp issued Feb.22nd,1962. (from a set of 3)

The Wartburg is one of the most history loaded places of Germany. Built originally in the 11th century,it was near-completely rebuild from on 1838 till 1890 by grand-duke Carl Alexander von Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach (1818-1901). The "Neue Kemnate" on the left of the stamp (with roman windows) was the accommodation for the grand-duke and his family. Much of the rebuilding was done according to proposals by Goethe. Stamp issued Nov.23rd,1966. (from a set of 3)

The Wartburg again. Shown is the "Gotische Vogtei". Here Martin Luther lived 1521/22 as "Junker Jörg",hidden by the prince elector Friederich der Weise (Frederic the wise), after he was outlawed by the imperial court. Here Luther translated the bible into German and so layed the base for the universal german language, the "High-German".

The last of the "Wartburg-Set" shows the "Palas" or "Landgrafenhaus". Built around 1156-62 by Landgraf Ludwig II in byzantine-roman style as a
living- and representative house. One of several seperate houses of the Wartburg-complex. Saint Elizabeth of Thuringa lived in the basement of the Palas.
