Here is a recently received offer from Paul Sfeir to exchange postcards with him as he is currently serving in the Kerguelen islands, a French District, and is one of 50 staying over-winter. Paul would like to receive postcards from around the world in exchange for cards sent from Kerguelen. The ship resupplying the group and transporting its mail only services Kerguelen four times a year; mid-December (arriving on the 15th) and mid-March, August and November. Forum members can either send Paul a postcard and he will respond to them by the next boat rotation or send him an email so that he can send them a postcard before receiving theirs. He will try to accommodate requests for a specific stamp, but cannot guarantee his ability to honor the request. Paul's email address is paul.sfeir AT gmail DOT com and his mailing address is: Paul SFEIR Base de Port aux Français District de KERGUELEN Terres Australes et Antarctiques Françaises Via 97408 St DENIS MESSAGERIE REUNION

Cool! I would love to go there to see how it compares to CFS Alert at the northern tip of Ellesmere Island. Postcard ready to send... Peter, My niece has started a posting in Alert in November. I got my first letter from her today and was extremely disappointed to see that it had a Post mark from Belleville. I guess they stopped that special post cancel a while back. She is loving it there except for the polar bears that are too close for comfort. David

Alert stopped with the Alert cancel years ago! They weren't in use when I first arrived in the summer of 1995. That's a shame. I agree, a Belleville postmark just doesn't cut it! What about the military post office at the base in Trenton? They should at least give it a CFPO postmark if you ask me!
Polar bears started coming up more often beginning around 2010 or so - they used to stay well to the south for the winter, and only once every 5 years or so would venture that far north.

Exchanges from exotic locations are hard to resist... I emailed Paul. "I can send you postcards from Virginia, Washington, DC...Maryland, etc. I can send you maxicards. What are you interested in? hosting.photobucket.com/albums/ll201/dorincard/World%20collections/France/.highres/img463.jpgI would greatly appreciate if you can affix with strong glue, not saliva, a concordant stamp on the picture side of a postcard and get it postmarked also on the picture side. Then, the rest of the stamps should be postmarked on the address side, so you can mail it as a "postcard", without envelope. That way, you created a maxicard really circulated by mail!"

The forum received this request for assistance today -- the individual is seeking any information you may be able to provide regarding the unaddressed first day cover shown below with the two stamps from Great Britain's 1946 Peace issue (e.g., cover/cachet producer, quantities issued, current value, etc.). There are no markings on the reverse and the flap is sealed. Please post any pertinent information you might have on this thread as the requestor has been provided a link. I would suggest making enquiries here....... (Albeit, you are probably aware of it already) Good Luck. link

As it says on the cover, it is known as the 'Victory' issue to GB collectors. Considering the masonic symbols framing the 'text with stamp' on the left and the reference to the King being a freemason, one source might be the freemasons.
I also see the same Windsor cancellation for a 'Machin' issue on a cover addressed to Benham Covers. Maybe Benham Philatelic can provide more information on this type of cancellation, and, maybe, the cover itself.

It's a strange cover for sure, with one mint stamp and one 'postmarked'. It certainly appears to be Masonic. I found this one-off version online but it was probably not used for its original purpose since the date at the bottom on the reverse is 1991 and the Bletchley marks are for 2017/2018. Without the 1991 attribution on the reverse, the cover is misleading since it would suggest a First Day Cover from 1946 which it isn't. s

Perhaps 1991 is an appropriate date for attribution of this cover's origin - would any plastic from 1946 still be so clear as what is seen covering the mint stamp here? Did clear plastic exist in 1946 (other than cellophane, which would be impossibly brittle and yellowed now if it were 75+ years old)? I have my doubts that this cover is actually from 1946.
