The preliminary polling identified one article from each Volume 5 issue to compete for selection as the Forum's 2021 APS Article of Distinction. This final poll is intended to select the article which will represent the Forum as its 2021 submission to the American Philatelic Society. The article selected will be posted on the APS website's Articles of Distinction page, along with a link to our Forum. All members are strongly encouraged to support the Forum by participating in this selection process. Please identify which of the four articles that you want to represent our Forum. The four articles may be viewed here. The poll will remain open until 12:01 am October 1, 2021; results will not be displayed until the poll closes. [Note: If you are viewing this post using the "Recent Posts" function, the poll will not be visible -- to see it you must view the thread at the link provided.]

My fav:
V5.2 Rarity vs. Scarcity: Collecting Definitions
I learned a lot from this article, very useful. That being said, the other articles mentioned were all very worthy, too. Thanks

Great PDF...I like Cape of Good hope articles and absolutely love it when you add the picture that a stamp was built on. I do the exact same thing with Canada and Provinces.
Keep up the good work. Robert

I have just finished reading those four articles, and I choose V5.2 Rarity vs. Scarcity: Collecting Definitions. I thought that those two terms, rarity and scarcity, in connection with stamp express the same meaning in value of a stamp, but in fact, I was wrong. Now I know. Thanks

We've got a real horserace going here with 4 competitive entries. Place your bet to help your favorite be the first to cross the finish line.

The poll is still open and many of you haven't yet made your selection. You don't need to be an APS member to participate -- you are all members of APS Chapter 1591 (The Stamp Forum). Please support our finalists by identifying your favorite article. All 4 articles may be viewed here.

Hello, everyone: Just wanted to give this thread a bump to say: if you haven't voted yet for your favorite (or favourite) article, then please do! On behalf of all authors, I would take the liberty of saying that it is the greatest compliment of all that you have read our contributions and have weighed in with your opinion. Please vote!

We've been stuck at 48 votes cast for several days now.
I'm hoping the reason for this is that we have many members who are slow readers and not many who are apathetic.
Those who have submitted material for the Newsletter and its editorial team have worked hard to provide an informative product that showcases the Forum and the breadth of knowledge of our membership.
Please recognize that effort by casting your vote for the article that will represent TSF as its 2021 Article of Distinction.

Thanks to whoever it was who voted since my appeal yesterday.
While this process is to select the Forum's American Philatelic Society (APS) Article of Distinction, you do not need to be an APS member to participate in the selection.
The process is intended to recognize both our Forum/APS Chapter and those members who have opted to try their hand at philatelic writing.
For those who may not be familiar with the APS Article of Distinction selection, each APS Chapter (the Forum is Chapter 1591) that publishes a Newsletter is allowed to submit one article per year to APS as its article of distinction for that year.
The author of the article is recognized by APS and the article is posted on their website, along with a link to our Forum.

If you are viewing post using the "Recent Posts" function, you will not find the poll. Clicking "reply" to my post in that view will take you directly to the correct thread in which to make your selection. All that is needed is to scroll to the beginning of the thread as that is where all polls are located. You can also access the thread from the home page by clicking on the Articles of Distinction board within the APS category.

First, as a new member I have to say that I am impressed by the quality of the newsletter! Lots to read in the only issue I have completed (last one). And the four entries here were all a treat to read. However, voting for all four is not the way to choose the entry so I chose the article I learned the most from. If I had used the critera enjoyable it would have been impossible.

Wow! That’s fantastic and most encouraging.
I’m glad it found favour with a number of readers. I find the complexities of the numerous different postal arrangements intriguing.
I am about to re- jig it as a PowerPoint presentation when Aberdeen hosts Harrogate in a Zoom session in November.

Nice work and congratulations Alex ( vikingeck ) :-)
At the same time and for everyone reading this, I would encourage you to give some thought to either writing another article or giving it a go for your first attempt. The personal gain or benefit from researching and sharing a part of your collection in greater detail in an article rather than a posting, far outweighs the short-lived excitement of a like or a vote as I can attest.
If anyone has an idea they want to discuss further, need a bit of a push to put 'pen to paper' or simply an extra pair of eyes to proofread something already drafted, let me know...
In the meantime, happy collecting!

Would an article be accepted on the understanding that it wouldn't be entered into any of these polls?

I guess any article would be welcomed… I certainly wrote unaware of any voting and was surprised to find it had been selected as a possible submission from the Forum .
I wrote because I thought I had a story worth telling, I didn’t intend it as any kind of competition, but if my fellow members thought it worthy I am delighted and honoured.

Would an article be accepted on the understanding that it wouldn't be entered into any of these polls? I would rather know before hand that a member does not want to give permission for APS to post their submission than to find out after the article had been selected as the Forum's representative for that year.
