Hi! I am a new member looking forward to be part of this community! I am 53 yrs old and live in Sweden, Örebro. I don´t think that is to reveal too much even if I have a protected identity after threats and arson attack, but I normally try to protect my whole name and of course my whole address.
I used to collect stamps as a young kid, hard not to as my mother worked at the post office, which made my Xmas gift identification process easier - I always knew what a small flat gift was (year set of Swedish stamps). Growing up I got other interests, girls and boys and politics and so on. About 2,5 years ago I took up my stamp collecting hobby again. I almost directly created a website for my collections, my main reason was that it added something to do while on long term sick leave after the arson attack on my home. I have not figured out how this forum works but there might be a link to the site somewhere around here... and if not this is it. I had (have?) the intention of making it bilingual but for now it is in Swedish with prayers that Google Translate kicks in.
My first collection area is Swedish stamps, unused and preferably MNH which is not easy with the older, classic material... Then I collect stamps stamped in the city closest to my heart Vadstena, where I never have lived. But thru postcards I try to explain why a small "collection of houses" (to borrow an expression from Susan Boyle) made Vadstena my second stamp collection. Then I somehow needed a third area to collect so as one of my political topics of interest is "social problems" and mainly addictions I started to collect "anti-drugs" stamp with a small hope to display how philately have contributed to raise opinion against drugs and drug abuse with stamps. And at first I was focused on drugs in the meaning of narcotics. Then I expanded that to the two other and more common drugs; alcohol and nicotine (philately has a problem there, it seems to be very random what is defined as drugs, a topic I hope to expand on somehow in the future). Those two sub topics also made room for some netutral or romanticizing stamps. And as collecting stamps is like an addiction I needed to add drug related cinderellas too, mainly from the temperance movement (mostly Swedish).
I think that pretty much covers my stamp collecting. If anyone looks at my homepage and have ideas on how to improve (the bilingual issue could be easier if I decide to use some of my collecting budget to buy access to add-ons for that purpose so that will come when my economy gets better....). If there anyone more collecting stamps in the same themes as I am and you have managed to identify stamps in that area that I haven´t that would be much appreciated to get a notice on!
I look forward to seeing you in the forums!
