drblade .... Isnt the 2p classed as green ? Or am I missing something ? Is it listed as blue in Deegam ? Hi, the 2p stamp is coloured green, the phosphor is blue. It's a 2016 counter sheet stamp. I will check it in case I've missed a phosphor change?

drblade I wanted to see the JET phosphor as seen under a UV light (long and short wave). It is supposed to be unique. I have standard yellow but not side by side with a JET phosphor. Some of the early phosphors lose their luminescence characteristics so this is a variable. From adminware site the above 2-band tagging also exists as "JET" phosphor. This phosphor has a slight yellow colour - easily separated from the above tagging. Stamps with JET phosphor include:½p turquoise 1p crimson 1½p charcoal black 2p green 2½p pale magenta 3p ultramarine (including Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales) 4p rust brown 5p greyish violet (Scotland) 6p light green

Just about got your explanation. I've got some more checking to do obviously. I can check out some of the stamps on your adminware list, but I'm having difficulty copying the outcome without a working digital camera. An old 35mm camera which won't turn the flash off, is not much use?? By the way the info on the adminware site is excellent.

Welcome to the Forum drblade! I'm really looking forward to your collection and expertise on early Great Britain. I completed (except for the high value seahorses) Great Britain from KGVI to pre-decimal QEII awhile ago. I've recently begun collecting early GB Victorian issues (and, so far only those with my initials R L). At this point the only ones I'm interested in are the line engraved issues but that might change? I have plating questions regarding the penny black that I'll post sometime. I hope you enjoy your time here, it's a really friendly place for sharing on every philatelic level.
Rob Thanks for the welcome Rob, My GB collection so far is almost complete from the 1887 Jubilee issue to date. By that I mean the basic singles, with the exception of Seahorses and some of the other high value singles. Like you i am currently looking for various Victorian issues. My line engraved are virtually none existent with the penny reds my next venture. I have a fairly substantial collection of Machins and without calling myself an expert, possibly I know more about these than the other areas of my collection. I have stuck with unmounted mint items for my collection, so as you will know it is expensive (slow) finding these types, prior to George V, these days.

Rob Thank you for the welcome REL1948, I replied to your post a couple of days ago, but can't see it. My early GB seems to be similar to your's. I'm almost up to date from the Jubilee issue to date, (unmounted mint basic singles with various extras). Some of the high values prior to George V elude me. My seahorses none existent. I'm not an expert by any means but if I can find the info on something I can look for it. I'm currently looking for QV singles, line engraved areas, as I'm working back through the years. As you will know unmounted mint in these cats are expensive & difficult to find. Drblade

You are very welcome Drblade. I'm only looking at used examples from the line engraved issues. I want to have at least a few examples to display. I'd have to mortgage my house to go mint.
I remember the first time I saw the "Seahorse Issues" it would have been at the Minkus Stamp shop here in Detroit in the late 1950s (in the J.L. Hudson Department store). I was mesmerized by the images and the stunning engraving. I've never lost my admiration for that series. I have mint examples in my Bechuanaland collection but none from the Motherland yet. I bought a set of the reprints from The Royal P.O. and mounted them in my album. For a week. I embarrassed myself and removed them. If I'm ever fortunate enough to own a Green Seahorse I'll proudly fill that mount with a genuine example (probably not in this life but it's a wish).
Rob
PS I love the quote on your posts. Buckminster Fuller is a hero of mine.

PS I love the quote on your posts. Buckminster Fuller is a hero of mine. You are correct about the seahorses & their designs, some of the best, alongside the GV £1 PUC black, which I managed to obtain about 3 months ago, white gum too.

I'm jealous. I owned a superb used copy of the P.U.C. issue quite a while back and sold it a few years ago. It was a bold and stunning design that emerged from among its bland contemporaries of the time.
