Have any of you had any experience with Electronic Perforation Gauges? These old eyes need some extra help these days. The dot gauges have become a joke even with magnification. I've been looking at the SAFE Perfotronic 2 9850 model. It's really expensive in my humble opinion but might be a possible solution. Do any of you own this device? If yes, what is your opinion of it overall?
I have thousands of Canada small Queens I'd like to measure so I need some degree of automation.
I purchased the SoftPro EZPerf software last year but it requires way too much scanner setup for quantity measurements so I don't use it anymore.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I use "Stamp Analyzer" on my iMac. It works great, requiring just a 300 DPI scan. With VueScan, it is easy to just scan the stamp. It does a pretty good job. But then you need an Apple computer...
EDIT: You can adjust the DPI in app. I haven't used it in a while. I'll try it out again & post a picture.

Here is a photo of the results of one stamp.
Unfortunately a bug means one cannot change the DPI, but it reads the EXIF data to get it.
It works quick, just takes time to scan images. But, if you use PMGS StampFix (Mac, Windows) scan a scanner full of stamps & use StampFix to separate them all into individual files. That works great too!
Hope that helps you out!

REL1948 Am not aware of this electronic gauge you mention. I also have EZPerf but every stamp that goes in must be scanned at 300 dpi and I do not find it practical for volume measurements I have an old copy of Brian Cannon Specialized Perforation Gauge For Canadian Stamps which I find great for Small Queens. I am aware that one of our members, WERT , has the PDF (Just noticed he posted while I was doing the research) !! - you should contact him by PM and am certain he would e-mail the gauge in question, which even has the kiusalas gauge ans special gauge for Small Queens René

This is what I bought about 6 or 7 years ago paying about 200 euros, new directly to Safe Italy. Personally I am very satisfied and I use it at the same time as the classic odontometer with diagonal lines. Absolutely accurate saves time and eyes. Safe Italy sells it today for 279 euros.

Hi René, Thank you for the suggestion but I have more dot type gauges than teeth including a couple of Kiusalas. They've become useless with my eyes. I really need an automated solution and I think the Safe product might do it. I'm just looking for anyone with experience with a device of this type. Scanner products are out the window for me.

Hello rex, Yes, that's the unit I was referencing except yours was their first model, currently they refer to it as the Perfotronic 2 (probably the same unit at 2 x the price ). The fact that you've enjoyed it for several years seals the deal. I'm ordering one for a Christmas present for my eyes.
Thank you so much for sharing.

Thank you for your great suggestion Robert (WERT), it's a wonderful scanner based solution but I'm looking for a non-scanner product. Too many stamps, too little time, fuzzy eyes.......

It is a very delicate object in fact I use it very carefully, I suggest buying it new from Safe retailers, not used on ebay. From the safe italia website it costs 279 euros.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

Wow! I guess I have not been doing enough serious stamping in the last few decades or I do not specialize that much to realize that these machines even exist. From what is in my world wide collection there was a time that I spent many hours studying perfs and watermarks though. My thought is though that I am surprised there is not an app for reading perforations already without requiring scanning.

In some cases I have used the method of scanning and then uploading to a website to assist with calculating perf measurement.. Tools are nice.
Now, in the image above, I would had the image display something like 14.19 (implies accuracy) since most catalog perfs listing are usually rounded to the nearest quarter.
