ameis33we never had the response to your question - I appears that these two stamps were printed on fluoro and non fluoro paper (ordinary paper) René

I have to open another thread on the San Giorgio issue... The San Giorgio was initially issued in 1957, when 500 and 1000L were in effect high value. The stamps were printed on star carpet watermark (I-II-III-IV? I don't remember, but that's difficult to detect also for any italian average collector). The basic characteristic is that the paper was not fluorescent. But the San Giorgio has been in use for a quite long time, and reissued in 1969 and 1974, where 500 and 1000L were still high values, but let's say less high... The basic difference is that the latest issues were printed on fluorescent paper. All these issues are usually referred as 1957... also on the stamp, the year indication didn't change... But it's pretty much common to find used stamps fluorescent, so the latest issues and not the first one. That's the error...
