Hi everyone!
I'm a New Yorker with a long interest in philately, going back to when I was a kid and my grandfather showed me his carefully maintained albums. When I was young I was interested in first-day covers, maintaining a small collection; over the years I drifted away from the hobby, like many people, but like many I've recently drifted back. I particularly enjoy making hand-crafted FDCs for new US issues with my young kids, a creative pursuit that's also helping introduce them to philately and the many facets of the world that can be appreciated this way.
I consider myself a minor collector and a major appreciator. My collection remains modest and intended for personal enjoyment, but I love reading about and admiring all sorts of stamps, covers, and postal history. In my online research, I found that this forum seemed like the one I'd most like to be a part of. I may not post very frequently, but it's nice to meet you all!

I consider myself a minor collector and a major appreciator. And a better attitude about stamps has never existed. Greetings from a couple hours up the Interstate and welcome to TSF!

Thanks very much for the warm welcome, everyone! It's much appreciated, and I'm looking forward to reading and posting more.
If I did want to post images of my handmade FDCs, does anyone have thoughts on the best part of the forum for something like that? US covers, US modern, General DIY.... ? I'm still working on a way to scan these properly, but I'm working on a batch of new covers that I'd love to share sometime!

I would think that you could use the United States covers section and start your own thread.

Welcome to TSF, swvl .... I hope that you will enjoy your time with us. As Alyn ( iswscwebmaster ) said, you could start a new thread to share your FDCs with us. An alternative might be to look for an existing thread and post there. The sub-board for US covers would be found here: thestampforum.boards.net/board/154/covers-postmarks-postal-stationeryThere are seven pages in that US sub-board for covers, postmarks, and postal stationery, so you could have a look to see if an existing thread would fit the items you would like to share. One example might be this one: thestampforum.boards.net/thread/6071/covers-hand-drawn-postcardsThat one is for hand-drawn covers, so if yours fit that description, I would encourage you to post examples of your work there. If that is not a good fit, then by all means, start a new thread specific to what you are doing. Whatever you decide to do, I hope that we will hear more from you on the Forum. -Chris ( Beryllium Guy )

Hello swvl , It looks like our interests overlap! I too enjoy making philately-related artworks and hand-crafted covers, and would love to see your artworks! You may see my creations in the thread Postal Art (the project is renamed to Postkard Art). It's in the subform 'General Information -> Have a question? Post it here' because I was not sure what kind of object I was making, so I started the discussion with forum members by asking questions. But as others have suggested, you can definitely go into more specific subforum to post your artworks.

Thanks dorincard! Yes, maximum cards are very cool and appeal to my interests. I've thought about making some of my own. Thanks for the encouragement!

Congratulations swvl on achieving full membership here on The Stamp Forum. I have enjoyed you postings including those that focused on such artists as Mark Rothko & Ruth Asawa. However, given my own collecting interests in Canada's Locomotive series, it was this posting in the 'Today's Mail' thread, that still brings a smile to my face... Again, congratulations and welcome to TSF :-) Happy collecting!

Thanks, stanley64! And thanks to everyone here. I'm very glad I made the decision to join this forum last month. I've really enjoyed sharing some of my collecting interests, and I've already learned so much from reading everyone's posts throughout the forum. The Canadian Locomotives are just one example of something I've happily discovered here, and a subject I look forward to reading more about. This is a truly great community, full of people who are as knowledgeable as they are friendly. Cheers!
