Hello everyone!
It's great to join all of you in this community! My name is Dan and I'm pretty new to the hobby. I had always wanted to get into stamp collecting due to my love of history, but for years I've focused on collecting baseball cards and coins. I only started collecting stamps a couple of months ago when I saw an ad in some junk mail offering three historical stamps for free. I decided to respond to the ad, and when I received my three stamps I was hooked. The artwork of each stamp and the historical significance of what was depicted drew me in. I've been trying to grow my collection and learn as much as I can ever since.
I grew up in Chicago, but recently got married and moved to Allen, TX (just north of Dallas) to be closer to my wife's family. I recently reached out to another collector (Ted the Talking Stamp Collector from YouTube, whom I highly recommended giving a watch), who encouraged me to join forums, such as this site, in order to get plugged into the stamp-collecting community.
I've got a wide range of interests but I'm trying to limit my stamp collection to U.S. stamps. Any stamps depicting sports (baseball in particular), maritime themes (Moby Dick is my favorite book), railroads or steam locomotives (my dad and I are big rail fans), or anything of cultural or historical significance (I majored in history in college) are what usually catches my eye. Any collectors in the Dallas/Fort Worth area please feel free to message me. Anyway, I look forward to chatting with and learning from all of you, swapping stories, and sharing our love of stamps! - Dan Golden

Welcome! I have seen, and even created maxicards with each of your interests. You, too, can have fun creating maxicards.

Welcome to TSF, Dan ( dpgolden215)! Thanks for a very nice intro post and welcome to the hobby, too. Many stamp collectors also collect other things, so you are certainly not alone there. Enjoy your time with us! -Chris ( Beryllium Guy) US expatriate living in the UK
