I managed to get this, one of the all time G.B. classics, late last year. It's unmounted mint never hinged & one of my favourite stamps. Recess printed by Bradbury Wilkinson from their own die & plate.

Lovely stamp drblade. I also acquired one earlier thjs year. It is not especially rare, but its very high popularity has driven up the value. I am now on a quest to find an affordable 1 pound Seahorse. I have the 1932 reprints and the 1918 Bradbury Wilkinson sets and would like to add the earlier printings including the high value; but not easy to find good copies that fit my budget.

I too am looking at the seahorse series. Some time ago having completed my collection from Edward to date I had to start working back through Victoria & the high-priced stuff. Big mistake not getting them when I first started collecting in the 1960's.

Yes, drblade; hindsight is a wonderful thing. I've been watching for the Waterlow and De La Rue printings of the Seahorses; but they seem very scarce. I'd be very happy with F-VF used copies. I watch eBay, SAN and HipStamp; but if anyone knows better places to look, would appreciate knowing.

UK GB Stamps has a beautiful PUC £1 at £610! If I hadn't gone overboard at Brixton-Chrome this past week, I might have bought it. Maybe I'll search out a used copy.
Oh, the other site has used for £550. It will have to wait.

Thanks drblade; I'll check those out. Brighton - good to hear you are supporting Brixton Chrome, our local dealer. Chris has helped me a lot assembling some of my earlier Canada and I haven't been able to visit since the pandemic started here. However, talked to him at Canpex and was pleased to hear his business is doing well.

Chris is a nice guy! I found them again recently. Check out my latest acquisition from them in the Whatcha Stamping thread!

To soak or not to soak?
I have a £1 PUC used that is still mounted on paper. The paper has been trimmed to a square slightly larger than the stamp itself, so there is a margin around the stamp of about 2mm. My inclination is to soak the stamp off the paper but is it safe to do so and are there any particular precautions I should take. Or should I just leave the stamp on the paper?
Thx

Dave Sounds like the paper on which the stamp is stuck doesn't add any value to the stamp, e.g. special cancellations, etc. If it were mine, I'd soak it; but I'm a risk taker ! There are many used ones around, so many have done it apparently without adverse consequences. But it is a very valuable stamp, so due care should be taken. I recently faced the same dilemma with Newfoundland C12, the overprinted Dornier Trans-Atlantic flight stamp of 1932 (cat $400). No problems. However, maybe someone else has more professional advice.

I gave it a try and soaked the £1 PUC, all worked well and it looks a lot better without its paper backing.
Thanks for the help
David
