Nice one Alan, and welcome. It would be nice to hear a little of your background in this, your introduction to us. How long have you been a collector of stamps, what got you started, what is/was your profession & where are you based in the world ? etc etc Scott #4 = SG 4 - so your 1d shown (you will need to improve the image quality presented too) above doesnt look like a Richardson 1d on blue paper to me, but it is a little small to make out. Perhaps you could post images of just the stamp without all of the black background around it, front and back. Also, perhaps just reply in the Chalon thread here ==> thestampforum.boards.net/thread/7498/new-zealand-chalons-1855-1873The Richardson blue paper is officially unwatermaked BUT, and there is always a but, there are copies that have portions of the papermakers name etc thru' the sheet. Anyway, welcome aboard and look forward to seeing more of your 'challenging' Chalon questions. Dave

From what I can see of the images shown above Alan, it is a normal SG34 (Sc# 11 or 11e) 1d Orange vermillion or Vermillion on white wove paper. A Davies print with 'large star' wmk (I think that is what you are seeing with that picture you have drawn of it). The stamp is thinned as you probably already know.

Thank you Dave for the reply: you appear to be a NZ expert: I am not ! 65, retired & collecting about 10 years now One collection I have is worldwide #1s & #2s, its special! You mentioned about that funny looking watermark being a large star; it is not I now attach pix of my NZ Blue 2p Queen Victoria SG2 or Scott 2 (possibly) front and back Its unused with a very noticeable large star watermark on the back This water mark does not appear on the #4 NZ I sent earlier now I'm even more confused! Welcome to TSF, alan! Thanks for starting an introduction thread, where you can tell the members a bit about yourself and your collecting interests. I noticed that you inadvertently created two intro threads, so I have removed the other one to encourage the membership to use this one. I also see that you have been busy posting in the existing Chalon threads, which is good, and that Dave ( DK) has been helping you with sizing your images correctly. Welcome again, and enjoy your time with us! -Chris ( Beryllium Guy) US expatriate currently living in England

Thanks to Jeff S for recommending I use the cropping tool to get a closer up image of my pix.
Also, a shout out to DK Dave for cropping one of my pix for me, Thanks guys!
I never cropped before in my life, so I tried one. It worked & it's pretty easy.
I had always used the zoom in feature before.
The first pix I will post of a cropped picture will be the watermark of that 1855 -1873 NZ red orange Queen Victoria 1p.
Clarity watermark fluid will arrive next week & I can't wait to get reaction from you guys after you view this watermark. You guys are the pro's, I'll never ever reach your level of knowledge.
I honestly believe it will not show a watermark #6 large star.
Also, I will add close up pix of my 1855 -1873 NZ blue Queen Victoria 2 pence as a comparison because that one definitely has a watermark #6 large star.
I'm hoping that the watermark image will jump out clear as day after a drop of the Clarity watermark fluid, never used it before.
Stay tuned!
Alan

Welcome I don’t collect New Zealand, but I always wondered where the old Zealand is… It's a province in the Netherlands (called Zeeland) on the coast just above Belgium...

Thanks again to DK Dave for spelling out the reality of the watermark. Both came out as large stars (no cross was visible) when I dipped them in Clarity fluid see attached Alan
