ah, the best laid plans. I had started the 10 minute soak in peroxide , when a knock on the door was my neighbor with two small children in tow. She had locked herself out of the house and asked to use the phone to call her husband to 'run home' and unlock the door. Today it has been warm , close to or at the century mark, so they stayed inside , chatted milk and graham for the wee ones, until her husband arrived. so the 10 minute soak turned into a 50 minute soak.... but I think it is safe to say that these are absolutely safe to soak, definitely NOT a fugitive ink. Even the extended peroxide dip (a new unopened bottle!) didn't have much overall effect. staining on reverse improved only slightly.
